Was at the surfside beach (~5 mile mark) from Noon-9pm Saturday. Conditions were less than ideal, medium surf, murky water and periods of heavy sea weed. Caught plenty of mullet with the net, but nothing was biting. Was fishing all three cuts with live mullet and cut bait, and throwing some lite tackle in between weed removal sessions.

Anyone do any better?

5/22/10 Was at surfside on saturday and fishes were not biting live shrimp. Used mullet and landed two bull red: (36 & 38 inches) I lost a lot of mullets to those croakers casting with my 10 ft rod but when I changed to my 12 ft rod is when I landed those bull reds. All those baitshop had tiny shrimps. Why does surfside baitshops have little shrimps compared to galveston baitshops?

was there Tuesday & a friend went yesterday. Near full moon + wind changing direction = not productive. Pompano and smacks are there but they're not biting. Cut baits bring sharks and catfish. Heard a guy caught a king from less than 1/2 way out on Tues O.o

I have been planning a trip down for the first Sunday in June for about a month. I really hope it picks up by then. If it doesn't, does anyone know someplace near that we might get into some fish. Doesn't matter what kind of fish, as long as it makes good table fare. I'm bringing a co worker and his 11 year old son down and we will be fishing from the bank and wading

was there today the bite was all on shrimp, but the fishing was off and on had smacks and pompano earlier in the day but in the afternoon till around 7 people were catching specks between 14-18 inches...me and my buddy only got there around two and most of the action was at high tide that morning, didnt catch much of anything cause our shrimp died early because of this shitty aerator that just wasnt pumping enough oxygen shrimp died 10 minutes after we got there....

As of yesterday night, the surf was flat, the wind was relatively calm and the fish were on. Hub and I caught slot reds, croaker, and a few specs. Missed some really good ones, as there were hard hits but I'm kinda rusty, so no sets. Folks we talked to were bringing in some sharks, slot reds, sting ray, you name it. The jetty was pretty darned busy too. Wanted to go back today, but duty kept me home. Darn it.

was there yesterday 5/31. got there at about 1430hours and people were still coming in, mostly tourists. bumper to bumper from the blinking light before the baitshops; the beach was totally packed but not many people were fishing. I and a friend caught a good amount of croakers and blue runners, a couple smacks. No a single big fish to be seen, neither red nor shark, not even any gafftop or hardhead. Yeah and those bikini wearing chicks got me distracted the whole freaking time O.o

5/29/10 was there on Saturday and caught some smacks (5), sand trout (4), speckled trout (5) and croakers (3). Smacks were legal(15-18 inches) and they didn't put much of a fight. Most of the fishes were caught in the channel. Only (2) smacks were caught on the surf side of freeport. Only kept some of the trouts, the rest were released to be caught another day. Normally the fishing there would get my blood pumping but out there the only thing that got it pumping was "bikini wearing chicks."
