I lost a lot (if not all) respect for Tred when I saw him (on TV) catch a line class record sailfish with a light tippet (4 lbs or something crazy like that)...heres what he did, they teased up a sail and cast to it, it bit & the captain backed the boat down full throttle, they grabbed the leader & screamed "caught fish, caught fish"...nuts if ya ask me, it lasted all of 30 seconds, I doubt the fish ever realized it was hooked.

There is definitely a point where the line class records just get silly.

That guy would be a blast at the chi-chi cantina.

It's more than the catfish would do.

Tred's show was fun to watch IMHO. He could be a jerk, and at the same time laugh at himself when things didn't go his way. I wouldn't argue that some of the stuff he filmed was rediculous (like the sailfish on light tippet episode), but some of the stuff he filmed was pretty cool, like shooting at ducks and pheasants with the long bow, or hunting hogs with a knife.

Seems like the longer the show aired, more failures were shown. He kinda got away from what he was best at, running the tuna boat.

No matter what anyone thought or thinks of the show, if you saw the episode shot after his spinal stroke, you had to feel really bad for the guy. Pretty rough if you ask me.

Tred's show is an acquired taste. I got to where I liked him, and he mellowed after the first season or two.

About a year ago he contracted some kind of blood disease that rendered him paralyzed from the chest down. Sad deal.

Much of what Tred says is tongue-in-cheek. Like he always says, he does things the hard way, but he could just as well be saying what Big Dale says all the time. I didn't check the record Mike was talking about, but I'd venture to guess he didn't submit it and the very short "fight" between the boat and fish was a tongue-in-cheek poke at some of the guys that actually use those techniques. I can't prove it, but that's my guess.

FISH ON!!! ummmmm off

thats an interesting thought. Like Steve Martins character said in Roxanne "we don't get much irony around here" and I could say the same of introspective or tongue in cheek on TV. Good if it is though!
