How do you get to Sheldon Reservoir? I've heard a lot about it but have never been and want to check it out sometime.

If I had a rod strong enough I'd definately love to fish for carp. I mainly bass fish and some bluegill and other fish like that here and there. Sheldon Reservoir any good for those? What other kinds of fish does Sheldon Reservoir hold?

Yea it has good crappie and bass (Average size bass in there is 4-5 pounds) It also has some of the biggest sunfish i have seen in the houston area. Nah you don't need really great gear to catch carp it just takes a little longer. As in a 10 minute fight turns into a 25 minute battle! Once you start breaking 15 pounds is when you start needing bigger gear. All the carp in my original posts on here were caught with zebco push button reels and 6 pound test.

Oh well in that case I needa learn how to catch me some carp haha. I just bought me a Browning "Stalker" rod and reel combo I'm still getting use to. Its a medium action and I put 12 lbs test on it. Been seriously into fishing for a couple months and I just can't get enough of it!! In a perfect world I'd be able to fish all day everyday. But yeah I got the Browning as an upgrade from my little Shakespeare light action rod I've had for as long as I can remember. Oh and thanks for the map!

No problem any time. We often post our plans for the weekend and all are welcome to join us. At the very least just to come check out all the gear and methods we use to catch these freight trains with fins we call carp. This saturday some of us will be at Deusen Park on lake houston and you are more then welcome to drop by or come and wet a line.

Ill have to see if I can find some time this Saturday. My family and I are in the never ending process of getting our house fixed up to put on the market and one of my best friends is leaving on Sunday and gonna be gone for the whole summer. But if I can't make it this time I'd definately like to go another time.
