The lake was crowded around the "good" whitebass spots near welch. I guess they must have been catching fish, but I didn't see much of it happening. We trolled along the dam and by birch park and snake island and found fish everywhere. We caught some gaspergoos by birch and a 17 3/4" hybrid by the dam. All but one of the whites were small, most 11" or less. We were trolling cranks with the hooks in and curly tails behind them, caught all but 2 of the fish on the curly tails. Also caught a good sunburn.

I have been told that the early morning bite is best and the whites move to deeper water shortly after sun-up and then it's for boats only.

Went last Wednesday to Welch and got about 20. Mostly small but a few real magnums.
Went Saturday and Sunday AM's to the same spot around welch and between me and my buddy we got about 100 or so on Saturday and 75-100 on Sunday. Then we trolled Norman middle N's for about 20 more small ones. Then we went back to Birch and got about 20 crappie. Half being keepers. By far my personal best days on LS.

We wade fished on the south west side of the island at Welch park. Use a pet spoon with a lizzards attached to the hook. We were fishing for white and hybrids.

We were fishing for whites. They were thick but small just to the right of the boat ramp at Welch. We were throwing rattle traps and found that the 1/4 oz chrome/blueback/orange belly was by far the best one. I didn't have one on Saturday and my buddy did and he smoked meprobably 4 to 1. I told this to some friends out there on another part of the lake. They changed to this lure(they keep a tackle store in their boat) and called me back with great results as well. They could tell a difference. They advised that when trolling use a Norman MiddleN in White/green back. We trolled and that lure really performed well. It beat out the other two rods 16 to 1. Again, I don't know why.

We were on the water by 8:45 and left about 1:30. I'd say the bite was about the same the whole time.

Here's the boat, hard to miss it.

So is nobody fishing at somerville? Any reports? I'm thinking of going wednesday, or maybe tuesday evening.
