im sure this has been discused before, but the 3 month search limit wont let me find it.
i would like to have some opinions on some nice spinning reels and rods to use behind the dams for stripers/hybrids.
im new to this setup and could use some ideas.i would think shimano would be good but im not sure.

just what I have learned-
you're gonna have to handle/cast a LOT of rods before you find what works for you. A use-specific or custom is your best bet, Krazy-Q makes real nice rods. For long casting, a 9-10 footer will do just fine, you can use a standard 7-7.5" med action for closer-in. there are a couple rods floating amongst the river guys that is actually perfect, but the blanks are very hard to get, took me almost 2 years to get one, but the change in ability was immediate. as far as reels, capacity, drag & overall weight are the 3 main factors. Quantum Cabo 30,40 Shimano Sustain 4000 be prepared to spend the extra $$ for quality.......

All I can say is for reels, bigger is not necessarily better. Some reels weigh upwards of 24 oz. And it will wear on you after a few casts. My startoff combo was a daiwa emblem 11 footer with a daiwa emcast sport 4500 reel. Didn't break the bank but it broke my arm. Lighter stuff costs more money. I know the guys up here have quite a few used setups that they are willing to let go, play with a few.
I don't really know what to type here.

Where in N Tx you located? I got a few that I can let go of. I'm about 3 mins from lake arlington so we can test anyone combo out.
And like everyone says, it's all personal preference. Lighter is usually better, but I perfer a med/fast to fast action. Actions really depend on your casting abilities.

You don't have to have it, but it is personal choice. It is all depend on where you fishing at, how far you wants to cast and how long you want to fish before you get tired. Some guys on this forum can cast few hundred more cast than other guys before putting the pole down to rest due to lighter gears.
