Thanks. Now I have a better excuse for not getting that Finesse 1-wt. The FWSF 601-2 is now ahead in line.

I have that same rod and Joe Robinson suggests a three weight line for it.

Hey folks-
I went ahead and put up a forum for us nuts that are playing with this technique. It's at www.threadlining.com. It's not a commercial site or anything...there just isn't a focused resource for info on this stuff, so I figured I'd put one up.

I still do a bit of conventional fishing now and then. My son has a great light weight spinning rod and reel, that I bought him for his birthday last year. The rod is a St. Croix, and the reel is a Daiwa. So you know they are good. The only thing I noticed on the video I don't agree with, is you close the bail by hand. If you turn the handle to close the bail, I have heard it is not good for the reel. When I first learned how to do spin fishing, my old boyfriend taught me how. But he never said anything about the bail, he just closed it by turning the handle. I had done it this way for years, then on a fishing forum I heard not to do that, so now I have a habit of closing the bail manually. At first it is a pain, if you are used to the other way. But in no time flat you will have the new habit down. Before my equipment was mostly cheap, so I didn't care. But when I started buying better equipment, I decided if it did help at all, I wanted to do it the right way. Some here may disagree with me on this. But ultimately it is your choice. I have a great Shimano Soros reel, and I want to keep that baby forever. It is my favorite spinning reel. I don't have a good rod like my son does, because I broke my good Judy Wong rod a while back. Still before anyone freaks out, I much prefer fly fishing 90% or more of the time. :-)

Pretty cool stuff, I certainly hadn't seen this the first time around. There was actually an article in this month's Texas Fish & Game, in which the author describes using a fly rod and spinning reel as a crappie setup and even for bedded bass. Of course I left my issue on the plane today. realmad

I keep reading about the videos of Joe Robinson demonstrating his spincasting but I can't find it anywhere? Is there a link to the video somewhere?
