I have noticed over the years that I usually catch more big bass when fishing a slower presentation. I get higher numbers but smaller fish with faster baits such as Rat-L-Traps though.

My biggest two bass came slowly dragging a texas rigged worm across the bottom in 6 to 10 feet of water. Other than that, I get the bigger ones on the stop or on the drop with spinnerbaits.

I wanted to get an idea of what artificial bait tactics consistently produce the 7+ pound bass for you.

Big jigs. 3/4 to 1 ounce flipping or football style, like the Reaction Attack Brush Raider and Endzone jigs. Soak 'em good and the big ones will suck 'em in. I usually focus on 8 or more feet of water.

If I could consistently catch 7+ lb bass I wouldnt have a problem. lol But my bigger fish have come on Jigs, 10.5 inch or greater worms, and buzzbaits.

I have tried and tried jigs and never have gotten them to work for me I guess I just haven't developed a proper technique or haven;t put it in from t of one's mouth yet.

I hear of a bunch being caught on them though.

I have caught most of my 5-7 pound fish using the techniques described in this article: Reaction Attack Techniques.

That being said, most of my bigger fish have come off of big jigs fished in deeper structure, or off of big, deep diving crankbaits.

It's all about confidence and patience. A ledge with deep water near by is ideal--and it's all relative what deep means. It might be 8 foot dropping to 10 feet or it might be 20 feet dropping to 40 feet, Fish places like that slowly and thouroughly and you're going to get some big fish.

Don't think moving baits won't catch big fish....DD22s have accounted for many 7+ lb fish for me.

Check out the article I posted up in the main Bass Fishing section on post-spawn fish. It describes the how to locate and catch big post-spawn females. The principles of the article can be applied to locating big fish on structure in general.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean moving baits, I meant specifically FAST moving baits,

bassonly,

i enjoyed reading both those articles and am going to keep a closer eye out for those intersections you were talking about. i've yet to catch one over 5lbs. so i'm also gonna try to locate some good points and stuff to maybe try and break my record. having said these things i have kind of a request for maybe a future article regaurding how to use your sonar to locate and detect the difference between rocky/sandy bottoms, submerged points and peaks. i'm somewhat of a beginner to the sport even tho i've been fishing my whole life, but i jst bought my first boat last year. i don't have the most expensive equipment, but i know you don't really need it to catch big fish if you jst know a little bit more on how to use the older stuff to the best of your advantage.

thanks.
