Last year, I purchased a Revo SX (7 to 1).. I couldn't get it to cast without winding the adjustment on the left side all the way down.... so essentially there was no adjustment to fine tune it... I could adjust the left side nut so that the lure would just drop, but could never get it to throw without backlashing unless the left side was wound all the way down... I returned the reel and got another.. it performed the same way... I kept the second reel, but only use it sparingly for carolina rigged fishing...

I have 4 or 5 round Ambassador's, they are older reels, but I still fish them and still like them... I bought the Revo SX to get a low profile reel, since then I have purchased 4 Curado reels and have no issues with them. in fact they perform great...

I think there must be something that I am not doing correctly with the Revo.. any suggestions?

Correction to my first post... I can adjust the nut on the RIGHT side, but not the fine tune on the left...

You pretty much answered your own question when you said you bought 4 corado's and never had one problem..Thats because they are a better reel...Some guys will swear by revo's, But my personal experience with them is they are junk and i returned mine too!! I've been using casting reels for a long long time and nver had as many backlashers as i did the 1 day I brought that revo sx out on the lake...I was very close to just tossing it in the water.

guys there not the hard to cast,,put the breaks on full(left side) then play with knob on the right to keep it from backlash,,takes time but my 7 year old can do it now,,the corados are nice (easy) to work with but once you learn how to use a revo you can cast longer every time,, good luck and if you want to sell it just pm me.

the "problem" with Revos is that you HAVE to adjust the tension knob tighter than especially shimano reels have to be...

So the Curado guys usually hate them because that's just part of the reel that is an afterthought for shimano owners. I can throw any model of the curado with the tension knob completely loose or even removed. You simply can't do that with a Revo, particularly the SX. The Revos do a fantastic job of not transferring a tightened tension knob to increased resistance on the retrieve btw..

It bugged me a bit on the STX at first, but once I realized that I just needed to tighten the tension knob before adjusting the magnets (BTW, this is one reel that you really should do what the manual actually says), I was good to go. I love how my STX casts now. The older Premier is probably my furthest casting reel as well, but it's a different animal due to the lighter spool.

I prefer the Revos over the Curados because especially as a leftie, we get hosed on gear ratio choices from Shimano. There is no 6:1, and I don't like 7:1 reels at all. With the Revos, we lefties get all the gear ratios choices available to righties.

I also prefer how the Revo fits in my hand over any of the Curado D's (even the 101D) and the E.

why bother with the brakes, make the reel as free as it can get, everyone of my reel are that way and i rarely get backlashes and i have shimanos, revos, quantums, and diawa. once you get used to them being completely free your casting distance will improve

I have the revo S model and it has no right side adjustment. All it has is the knob on the left for the spool. It has a plastic cover on the right side instead of a dial??

The revo s does have brakes on the other side, you can pop the small silver cover off and twist the side to open. Do you have a manual? I don't understand the prob people are having with the revos. I prefer them over the curados. But I'm weird, I prefer the new citicas over the new curados too.

I think my SXs are easier to cast than my STXs as far as backlashes go. I haven't had much of a problem tuning the SXs but on my STXs I turn the brakes way up most of the time and then mess with the tension and they work like a champ.

I think both cast with good distance and with ease. I use very easy wrist flicks for most of my casting and reach the distances I need very easily.

Ive had no issues with my 2010 SX...Cast as smooth as $169 reel should....My breaks usually sit at about half way depending on lure weight.
Jedi-The Revo S has centrifugal braking enternally. You have to remove the side plate to adjust the pins.

OK... lets factor out the Curado's.... I have 5 or 6 older round ambassador reels... I like them and I still fish them.. for years, all I owned was round amabassadors... the last 3 round amabasadors I purchased ( 7 or 8 years ago), the adjustment on the right side is about like that for the adjustment on the right side of the Revo. But they had an adjustment on the left side of the reel, a sliding scale adjustment from 1 to 10 on the round edge of the left hand side.. this slide let you adjust it for casting into the wind or not... it was loosest at 1 and tight at 10.... to cast for distance with no wind, set it at 1 or 2... if throwing into the wind, you could move it on down to 7, 8 or 9 depending on how hard the wind blew... I figured the adjustment on the left side of the Revo SX functioned much the same... but, I could never get it to throw without backlashing unless the left side adjustment was tightened all the way down,.. this of course reduced how far I can throw it... If I understand what you guys are telling me... I can either tighten it all the way down and get no backlashes, or I can learn to throw it with the minimum adjustment ... which I have not been able to do...

Shim the mag brakes on the prior to 2010 X in .014-.017 and you'll find they work MUCH better!
