abu need to do away with the magnetic brake an go with a centrifugal brakes like on their toro model, I recently got one and it works great, but shimano still has them beat in the brake department.

Quote:
guys there not the hard to cast,,put the breaks on full(left side) then play with knob on the right to keep it from backlash,,takes time but my 7 year old can do it now,,the corados are nice (easy) to work with but once you learn how to use a revo you can cast longer every time,, good luck and if you want to sell it just pm me.

I have all mine turned to about 1 o'clock and it works decent, do not turn that brake all the way off unless you want a mess.

Well, I worked on mine again last night... cost me a new spool of Vanish I had to cut off.... I had several backlashes which I got out, but the last one just had to be cut off...

The ONLY way I can get mine to work is to adjust the knob on the right under the handle for the plug weight and turn the "min-max" dial on the left side all the way to Max.... anything less on that left and the reel starts backlashing...

It throws, and it will cast a fairly long way... its just that I don't understand the point in the left side adjustment... why have it if it will only work on "MAX"... I have, and still use several old round Ambassadors that have fine tuning adujstments on the top edge of the left side round... I use them to adjust for the wind... minimum (1 or 2 setting for no wind) and 8 to 10 for throwing into the wind... they work great... I just don't know what the deal is with the SX... VERY FRUSTRATING.

the armadilla....

Are you trying to throw them without using thumb control?

Armadilla, the problem with the older sx you have is that it has a spool with a long fixed shaft unlike the stx and premier which both use the infini type spool. The problem is that you have the exact same magnetic break on all three reels, but because the fixed shaft spool(sx)weghs more than infini spool it builds up much more inertia on the cast as does the infini spool. This is why the older sx requires a higher mag break setting than the other two models and its still not enough. You will have to shim the brake like kayak search said in order to fix this problem.I shimmed mine as well.I did mine a little different way than he did but now you can actually control the cast.

I have two Revo SX reels that I bought last year and I really like them. Finally got away from the braid and put Pline CX premium copolymer line on them. I adjust the RH side tension knob for the lure weight and have the mag brake set about half way. Still have to use thumb control but getting really long smooth casts.
