rule of thumb:

If you see a rod with a reel already stuck on it.... chances are that it sucks.

4 piece rod are the way to go !

Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

Any difference between a 4 piece rod and a 1 piece, I'm sure there are but what?

Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

I think what you need to do is go out and test different rods in your hand, instead of taking brand suggestions.I personally feel that a 6'6'' Med power / fast tip rod paired with a reel with 6:3 ratio is an overall multipurpose fishing machine...Maybe not gar, though!lol
It'll be light and responsive enough to cast lighter lures and still retain enough backbone for bass.
Just my opinon.

I fish for longnose gar in particular, they aren't common at 30 lbs in my area.
