Ivie is great and has had a phenomenal year thus far, but I wouldn't go that far just yet.

I remember it was just a few years ago that Alan Henry was going to do that (replace Fork). Now? Crickets chirping out there. smile

IMO, Ivie will always be more subject to potential drought issues like the dry spell that severely impacted the lake in the late 1990s.

A great lake with great fish and a great future, but one or two years does not a Lake Fork make IMO.

Ivie is challenging right now but has been great for the most part since it filled in 7 days in I think 1991 or 1992.

I'm hoping Parks and Wildlife will look at the sack limits soon so its managed as a trophy catch and release only for 10#rs and above.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

You got that right Hag, and there were ALOT of non-tournament boats (me being one of them) out there today. It looked like D-Day off of Normandy in the morning and then turned into a skeeter-infested, rooster-tail regatta in the afternoon (funny, skeeters always seem much more numerous and frolicky in calm to light breezes - such as today) stir.

Texas4Liberty.... Yes, there are a lot of meat fishermen on Ivie that eat everything they catch. I know of one pontoon boat last year that was fishing with waterdogs. They had six fish from 8 to 10 pounds and a 12 in the ice chest. You wouldn't believe how many meat hunters that are on Ivie. A lot of low income families in the area that keep everything for food for the table.

I personally saw a 12 1/2 and a 10 1/2 today on Ivie. An 8 year old young man caught the 12 1/2 on a waterdog. That fish was spawned out. We helped them measure her, weigh her and take pictures so he could get a replica made. So, she's another SAL for next year. The 10 1/2 pounder was weighed in during the Stillwaters tournament by Mike Murphy..... mmurph on the forum. Mike caught her and an 8 to go with his 3 1/2 pounder. The Stillwaters tourney weighs in a 3 fish stringer. He won it with 21+ pounds. The deepest depth of all 4 of those fish was 6 feet. Mike was using a F5 watermelon red worm.

I lost an 8+ on a swimbait. She came up and jumped as much as she could and spit it back at me.

The 12.5 lb bass caught by the eight-year old boy would be the new junior lake record if he sends in his form to TPWD. Current junior record is 11.64 lbs.

I forget the girth now. We used a string to measure her. We had to put to measuring boards together to get the length. She was 26 1/8" long. That young man will be a long time beating that catch. He was pumped!!!

Have to agree on this one. The man is correct! If its legal and withing the law, your fish.
Keeping a legal fish is not against the Game-Laws. Cutting legal Trot-Lines is. So,
think about it from all sides.
