Leaving Mother's day with 13 others for 5 days fishing. Staying at Choke Canyon Lodge and wondering about restaurants, stores, and tackle stores close by. Thanks

I would plan to do a lot of cooking at the lodge. Three Rivers is very small and not much at all in the way of restaurants. Although I have never eaten there, Dairy Queen is probably the best place left in town to eat. George West is the closest town (about 10 miles away). I think there are a couple of places to eat there.

Not really any tackle shops around that I know of. San Antonio is about an hour North of the lake and Corpus Christi is about an hour South.

Not a lot anymore... But there is a store on the left as you enter Callaham. As for food, there is a DQ, Subway and the Shell in Three Rivers has GREAT chopped BBQ sandwiches! They used to be cheap but seems they have gotten popular. I haven't eaten at the restaurants in three rivers or close to the lake in some time.

Good luck!

There's a grocery store in Three Rivers. Also need to try the Sunrise restaurant on hwy 72 in Three Rivers. It is open early for breakfast but closes at 2 o'clock,so no good for supper. But if there is a day when you are not on the lake at lunch they have a great chicken fried steak.

The Antler Inn has a restaurant next to the hotel that is pretty decent. I think it's the only place in town I've ever eaten that is still open now that Nolan Ryans closed.

There is a Mexican place on 281 on the way out of town, but it's always looked pretty sketchy to me.

The lodge has a great outdoor kitchen where alot of the fishermen who are staying there gather at night. Like someone else said, take advantage of that. Might pick up some fishing tips too.

If your talking about the Mex. restaurant across from the Econolodge, it's pretty decent.
And the DQ is very nice.
And the Restaurant at the Staghorn Inn has a very good all you can eat buffet for the evening meal. (BTW, the Antler Inn is in Goliad - I get confused too!)

I appreciate all the help fellas. We plan on using the outdoor kitchen at the lodge. We don't usually stray very far so we usually are cooking at lodging places. But, some do like to go out and eat if decent palce close to wherever we are.

There is a new pizza place in town across from the DQ. Worst pizza I have ever eaten, and I have never been more violently ill.

I second the Shell Gas station coming into town for ALL OF THEIR FOOD. Breakfast taco's are really good. They have excellent Bar-B-Q. Better than 85%of what I've found in San Antonio or other big towns

Doesn't the staghorn usually close pretty early... too bad nolan ryan's not open anymore. Loved their fried catfish specials. Couldn't find anything to complain about their margaritas, either... smile

Supposedly the owners of the Choke Canyon Lodge bought the Nolan Ryan Steak House, and it's supposed to be open in a couple weeks. Third hand info, but what I heard from friends that were at the Choke Canyon Lodge a couple weeks ago.
