Personally I would rather bend the rod holder than damage my boat by pulling a base loose or bending the rail on my boat if I hit something. I've got the 3/8" rod holders and they are plenty stout unless your trolling with 50 lb tackle off shore. Mine are mounted on a 1" rail on my gunwales. I do have 2 mounted on my front deck with the star mount. I uses marine tex in the holes in the deck. They are very sturdy.

Brandon, I have used both the driftmaster and the Cabela's 360 quick draw. I dont think you will go wrong with either. I currently have the 360 quick draw and have been please with the function and the versatility of being able to change positioning rather easily. They are also a little for forgiving when having to step over or around the rod holders. Just my two cents..... Good Luck.

DEFINATELY GO WITH THE VERSATILE DUO!!!!

Another thing not mentioned yet is in the back of you boat your gona want more rod holders so you can have down lines, run ballons, cut bait, run planers.

Trust me your gona want a bar back there with lots of rod holders. I'm not real keen on the ones that go all the way across, just get you one for each side.

Looks like I am going to take ya'lls suggestions and go with 8 rod holders but ten bases right now. 4 of the Rodholders are going to be the Gimble Quick Draw and the rest are going to be the larger Pro Duo on the stainless steel round base. Like the idea of having a flat surface. Thanks guys.
