I know, it's overkill, I'm the king of it!! One crate is actually spare for carrying the battery if I use a Trolling motor on it. The other one is for fishing gear/anchor. The cooler, well I mean, WHO GOES FISHING WITHOUT BEER?? Gotta have a cold one every now and then when fishing hard! It's the "southern way". Fish, beer, beer fish.

I'm gonna look into a few different solutions. My hometown is an 8 hour drive from here door to door so that would be really hard on the bearings. Didn't think about that when I bought the trailer, but I can always just put the "YAK" on the roof and go that way. But damn that sucker makes some noise at 80 MPH! Good thing I gotta very loud RADIO!!

If you use the trolling motor do you have to get tags?

I've been seeing on other posts that you are supposed to get it tagged if you put one on it. I haven't yet, but typical me will push it right up to the first warning!

You can solve a lot of trailer problems by simply installing GOOD bearings and put on larger diameter wheels with the same bolt patterns. A lot of the import trailers
come with suspect bearings regardless of the speed or mileage. The bearings are not expensive.

Nice rig! Phill

You are right Phil! When I opened it up and looked at the bearings I couldn't believe the small amount of grease that was on them and they didn't say to re-pack them. But I immediately went to Auto Zone and picked up some more grease and packed the hell out of them! I'd like to get bigger tires on it, but it's a 4 Bolt pattern and I don't think I'm gonna find larger tires in a 4 bolt pattern. So, I'm looking at an axle change at the very least. but for what I'm gonna use it for for now, I'll leave it as is. If I need to go long distance, I'll just put the YAK on the roof! Ain't worth another $200 for an axle, not in this economy!

Measure your bolt pattern and google it around. The same 4 bolt pattern that holds the 8" rims also fits 12-13" rims.

You can get pre mounted galvanized 13" rim and tire for about $79 full price at Academy, etc. I buy my bearings at A&W bearings in Garland or Motion Industries. Neither is an automotive place so you need to take them a sample. The bearings will probably run $10 a pair. They will be German or Swiss and made for a life more demanding than the road.

The bearing buddies are a great product as well as the white lithium grease , but I still pull mine once a year , inspect them, hand pack them and forget for another year ( or more).

As far as Boat reg. goes, yes it has to be reg. if you use the motor. For that size is less that a ticket will cost you. They might not give a warning. Seems like reg. is about $28.00 for 14 foot or less and its good for 2 years. Not trying to start something just think about it.
Any way have fun be safe.

I went to TP&W and was quoted $85 for tags for a $229.00
yak. Yes, it's good for 2 years.

I just checked the TP&W web site for boats under 16 feet its 32.00 for 2 years some one gave you a bad quote or maybe charging sales tax if you were transfering titles also???? Still cheaper than a ticket and the hassel you go thru to take care of it.
