There is one guy who claims he has a permit to hunt down there with a bow and arrow! The place has recently sported a sizeable population of feral hogs! Might be the shots heard down there, somebody without a permit protecting himself, maybe from a boar!

I have been fishing that river and dam area since i was a junior in high school(1970/'71), and the MAJORITY of shots heard down there are beer drinking rednecks who go down there to throw stuff in the water and target practice, or are killing snakes, coyotes, rabbits, or whatever crossed their path that looks like a target( few humans, but the legends add to the mystique and intrigue of the bottoms, to those not familiar with lay of the land).

You kknow guys, I am against any and all cast netters anywhere i see em. BUT, down in that spot, once the water stops flowing over the dam, it goes down and dries up quickly! Last year, in mid summer, we had a MASSIVE fish die off, mostly bait sized shad in there, and you could not get near the place from the stench!

I would prefer they take those undersized fish and put them back in the river ABOVE THE DAM, where it never goes dry, but in this case and few and far between, if they are feeding hungry kids or needy families(many of these folks are needy), the alternative, to leave them there to all die, and create a potential health hazard, I just don't know, it is a fine line, because after all, the law is the law, and we should all follow it. But the stench and the sight of all those rotting carcasses last year was almost more than i could take.

food for thought.

Better for the fish to die and stink up the place than for needy families to be fed??.I disagree... it is the law, but sometimes exceptions can/should be made. To say they can all "go to hell" is childish. Some of you are obese and need to hit the gym, but I won't tell you to "go to hell". If someone is trying to feed their family by scooping up fish that will die otherwise...So be it

My fish is bigger than yours!
