I'm amazed at the number of banks that pop up on every street corner. There were sevaral 7-11s which were shut down to make way for banks. Now they are up for "ground leases." I don't think I've been to a proper bank branch since I worked for a bank 15 years or so ago. Eleven years or so ago, I opened a new account at a grocery strore.

Lot's of good stuff. Wish I could comment more, but our Code of Conduct prevents me from repeating "rumors" until an offical announcement is made by Cabela's Corporate in Sydney, Nebraska. Something has got to break soon as there is only 15 months until "opening" according to the DMN article.
Trout Bum, you could go to work at the Target in Allen and spend all your salary at Cabela's. What a nice deal that would be...

In case you're prone to mistake my earlier rant as a lack of enthusiasm for having Cabela's come to Allen, let me offer that tonight I took my daughter out to dinner and afterward I said, "hey, let's do something fun - let's go see where they're going to build that new Cabela's!"
They've definitely broken ground on it and look like they're getting ready to do the pipefitting for sewer, etc. The site they've cleared is massively huge as you would expect. For those of you who know the area it is right at the corner of Allen Station and Village - behind the Super Target. The folks at Dick's will have a knockdown 7-iron shot from their back windows to Cabela's parking lot.
This is all of about 2 miles from my house. I'm in serious trouble.

They hit a home run on location this time I believe, the thing that keeps me outta the Ft Worth store is the long haul over there (even if I'm already in Dallas) Allen is much more accessible to east Texans...also its close to my in-laws who I'll probably visit more often in the future.

Does this mean that I need to hunt up some more of the correct colored foam to tie more of the "Crips and Bloods" series of foam spiders? Somehow they never seemed correct for Loy Lake.

I think you're right. Allen seems to be making effort to develop itself as a destination retail & entertainment center. The Allen Events Center sits within a quarter mile of this Cabela's site, along with two massive retail complexes, across the highway from a fairly large outlet mall that has been here for some time. The "Arts of Collin County" development may go forward, and that's yet another performing arts center (likely more focused on symphony, dance, and live theater, I think), at Exchange & 121. There's a large, new Courtyard By Marriott hotel adjacent to the Allen Events Center and thus walking distance from the Cabela's site. One imagines that the Cabela's folks are thinking they will draw destination shoppers from the entire eastern half of the DFW area, plus perhaps as far away as Tyler to the east and maybe even Tulsa to the north. When you come out, bring the boat!

I suspect that the fly shop will pull all the closet fly anglers out of the woodwork (to mix metaphors).
