I think the moon phase does have something to do with the feeding activity, and here's why. The crappie have a very predominate lateral line, more so than most fish. Therefore, being the ear of the crappie (as well as serving as other body receptors also), they are as prone to gravitational pull (moon phase) as they are to barometric pressure change, and especially when they are up shallow. At least that's my two cents.

Cows standing up? Heck, I try to get to the lake before it's too early to SEE cows. I HAVE been known to kick that old rooster so he doesn't sleep thru crowing time.
I usually come home after it's too dark to see the cows I missed in the morning.
My granddad said it wasn't the cows in the field, it was that bear in his kitchen!

Guy, I don't know if this has any bearing on the subject but, I always heard up in Oklahoma that if the moon will 'hold water' go fishin. But, I don't pay much attention to it to know if it's right or not. Anyone else know that one?

Just do it! I hate talking about fishing when I am at work. I missed those bump-bumps on the jigs.

i have no clue..really, but i was told by a fisheries biologist in athen that we as crappie fisherman are all misguided in our belief that water temp triggers the spawn. he said that the light cycle (longer days) and moon phases of spring have more to do with it than anything....guess its just a coincidence that the temps are always on a warming trend when it happens.
myself..i have always relied on water temps to show me when..to stock up on slip corks

The Crappie (and Bass) bite better when the moon is directly over head or directly under foot. (really key during warmer months and not so during winter).

You have about a 1 to 2 hour window either moon over head or under foot everyday.

After fishing everyday (for Crappie during 2004, 5 and 6) I had read somewhere where they bite better moon over head and under foot.

My experieince is it's true. They also like the full moon phase and/or the new moon phase but still it's key when over head and/or under foot.

Ok, let's put some of these to the test. What was the barometer doing today? Where was the moon? The water temp averaged 69. Limited on Lavon pigasauruses today. Will post pix in a report/post tomorrow.
I guess the cows doing the Mike Iconelli break dance moves smile

They bite best at morning when I go in the evening. They bite best at evening when I go in the morning.
