Black Panthers are FICTION, sorry Actually they are not fictional. Melanistic phases occur in bobcats, ocelots, margays, leopards and jaguars as well as the puma. Even the tiger has a black variant (melanistic). Some countries like China and Indonesia, many South American Countries and Australia have many confirmed sightings of such cats. Florida would probably be the most active area in the US. I can't say what this one is but if it were trapped , it's DNA would reveal it's identity.

Great pics and good topic. A large cat's territory can be a hundred mile radius and they use natural pathways and waterways to access different areas. With the droughts we are having and the lack of food, they will venture into areas that would normally be avoided. We just take it for granted that the "wild" is pushed away from society and the truth is that as we encroach more and more on their turf..they are amongst us.

I know in Southeast Oklahoma They get some cougars that are unusually dark and look black in the evening, but I really dont think they would look that way in the light... Big tom cat maybe crossed with something else.

well i have done research and black panthers are not really "rare" but not seen very often. i also own 9 cats and it looks like a regular house cat you can tell by the color. baby black panthers have brownish skin and black spots so defiantly a very large undomesticated house cat.

That is a house cat. A jaguarundi is low slung like a weasel has a more flattened skull. They come in two colors, reddish and dark grey. If it were a panther or something like it, it would have huge paws, thick limbs and a more square head with bigger jaws. Google an image of a mountain lion cub and you will see the difference.

I will settle this! Since this is a fishing forum it is a Bass Cat! There, you can call it a Puma, Jaguar, or whatever in the end it is still a Bass Cat.
