Went out to a local creek Sat morning and had fun with some green sunfish. They were going after dry's sitting on top of the water. Tried an olive wooly bugger for a while, but got nothing on that.

If you don't mind me asking what dry patterns did you catch them on? Don't worry if it's top secret. I don't mean to pry into your flybox. I used to be of the thought that almost any fly would work for gills, then the gills educated me.

Bead headed prince nymph and Green/Black/White Panfish Popper usually work best for me, don't really have a top 5. All sz 10-14, mainly 12. Another good one is the clauser minnow, red/white or just white/gray seems to work particularly well.
Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

Any nymph will work, but BH PRINCE is my personal favorite.
Put rubber legs on a nymph and they are even better. For example, a squirrel tail nymph with legs is just deadly on BG. Same for Hare's ear and pheasant tail...add legs and its magic.
Another killer rig is a small popper with a nymph trailer...about 18 inches behind the popper. Really works well. Many times you get a double. I love to fly fish for BG. Doesn't get much better than that.

I do and I like to use cork popping bugs best of all. Especially good is the Bumblebee pattern. Nothing like a topwater hit. One drawback is that you occassionally have to suffer thru one of those green funny looking fish...I think they call them largemouth bass. But just throw them aside and keep fishing.
BBrown.... Semper Fi!

small Betts or Cajun poppers for the win
Ive probably left a hundred dollars worth of them up in willow trees
Ive had real good luck with black gnats and woolies on the wet flies, saw some green woolies at Academy I been meaning to try
I fish because the voices tell me to...

I second that too, I own the white/black popper bass bug mentioned. Recommend it!
