My brother, one of his in-laws and I launched the boat around 10:00 to do a little fishing. As we were running across the lake I passed a guy in a kayak out in the middle of the lake about 50 feet from him with not a light on him. Scared the HE11 out of me. I can only imagine what he was thinking see a green/red light running right at him. I thought about turning around to give him a piece of my mind but couldn't think of anything good that would come out of it. Some people are just stupid.

That might have saved his life. I've done exactly that to a guy that I now call a friend. That's how we met. He has lights on his yak now. Don't hesitate to call them out when lives are at stake.

I bet you scared him and got him wet! Maybe he will put up some lights or at least carry a battery powered spot light to flash at oncoming boaters

True, but saving his life wasn't on my mind at that point. In fact, is was the exact opposite.

Gotta have lights in the dark or you'll get buzz sawed. Bright and reflective clothing also helps. Worse case start blowing your horn or whistle which you are supposed to have in a kayak too. And Mr Gs friend is the one who enlightened me to the lights rule on the yak. Pun intended.

Wow... I'm pretty sure if i killed someone/a fellow fisherman even if by accident i would need some counseling. I wish you had more compassion for people and fellow fisherman. Even if someone in a kayak was being dumb it wouldn't warrant your feelings towards them. How do you know the person was not in need of your help already? How do you know they weren't hurt or had a medical conditon that was preventing them from being able to make it back to shore? Next time just turn around and make sure they are alright, and if they are go ahead and give them an ear full

Boy that guy was playing with death. I hope he never gits a big boat so he can set out in th middle of the lake with the lights off. Let it be knowing if I see you in the middle of the lake in a Kayak with no lights or air horn your on your on . I also dont help broken down moterist. That man could have called the lake patrol and thay would have not come out to help him. Thay would have told him it was not there job. Be prepaired you are on your on when you hit the lake. Its not a game, hell he probaly thought it was funny. I really dought he was in the middle of the lake and his lights just went out. Have a backup plain.

Let it be known Mark that if i ever see you on the water, or on the road, broken down i WILL try to help you in anyway i can. Not because it's my job or my business, But because that's the way i was brought up and raised. God forbid something happen to anyone of us and you are the only person around to help. Good luck fishing and happy boating.

And yes if you call lake patrol because of a physical ailment they will come to help, that's what they do

Don't count on lake patrol. Most days no one on lake. Sometimes on week end. Will pull you to nearest marina. They told me once their job does not start until someone drowns. The lake patrol is vitrually useless on Eagle Mountain. Game Warden is of more help.

Heck i've always thought lake patrol and the game warden were the same people. I guess i've just ran into the warden out there. But the wardens do seem to be really nice guys on E.M. I've talked to them several times. Of course my wife likes to dance when she catches a fish and i think that's what brings them in. Lol. thanks for the info sandjohhny

I don't know, for sure, if he need help. But unless you were there, its easy for you to jump to that decision look at the computer screen. I had been out there for the last 2 nights and I'm 99% sure I heard a few gun shot on that end of the lake those nights(was he packing a gun?, I don't know). Plus, when I passed him I saw him just sitting there watching me going by. Not waving or in ANY way trying to get my attention. Nothing gave me the feeling that something was wrong. Had it been a boat, sure I might have stop and help if need. The situation at that moment told me it was a guy out for a midnight spring kayak trip and was just sitting there waiting for me to drive by so he could be on his way. As far as a medical condition, well, its a stretch to say the least given the situation ( and again, you weren't there). All this info being processed in a matter of a few sec. took me to the action I exercised last night. I have met and fished with several friends on here and if you ask any of them I think they would agree that compassion is something I don't lack. And for you to make that statement shows me your ignorance.

2fish4everything you see game wardens quite often they work for Texas parks and wildlife. The lake partol works for Tarrant county sheriff. It is a political reward job. They do very little. I knew one of them and he was required to go to the lake 3 days a month or when needed to find dead bodies. When I lived on EM one time found a boat with nobody in the boat. They were called and they said it would be tomorrow before they could investigate. Two men drowned.
