Hello all
I just came home from a weekend on fork . What a joke I had one hit . For 2 days fishing .
Saturday I fished Bell Branch and Taylor branch . And the wind was bad . almost was swamped twice I have an older Ranger350 17.5 I swear the waves where above the sides of the boat water temp never got above 57 degs had to fish the south bank because of the wind . Sunday the wind switched so I went back to Taylor branch and fished the north bank . till about 11:300 then went to little canny and all the way north on the right side seen great looking water but no fish . I am about ready to quit fishing fork.

Fork can be a tough lake. Any lake, though, with Fork-sized fish is worth taking a regular crack at if possible. Don't quit it - you'll lay into a lunker soon enough - you just gotta keep putting in the time.

Fork is real tough right now. If you can find the fish right now you can really get into them, but finding them is the hard part. You'll find them, keep working at it!!

All North Texas Lakes are tough right now, even farm ponds. Water is muddy and cold. Most are in their draw-down mode getting ready for our "real" spring rains that sound like we will be having Friday.
There is no doubt that we are one month behind as far as weather. Some fish are up, but I would say that the majority are waiting to come up. With this weeks warm up, it will bring more up and we will have fish shallow up into early/mid June.
Giving up on any lake now is premature, it's just about time to get good.

I have fished bad water before muddy and past experience tells me the fish will be tight to cover and you have use a bait that has a large silhouette and or has a lot of vibration . I fished a 1 / 2 oz black and blue jig , 8.6.4 inch lizard in black and watermelon and chartreuse , Colorado blade spinner bait , threw a senko a little , black and red craw worm 6 inch , even got creative and fished a Bass assassin on a carolina rig . and I fished slow( I think I did that is hard to tell )

I live 40 minutes from Fork and I cannot stand the lake. I would rather go to Tawakoni!!! I catch more fish there and usually have it to myself.

Fork doesn't seem to be the lake it once was as far as numbers go.I fished that back in the early 90's and it was awesome, good numbers of fish and now it is totally different.Still a great lake to catch that bass of a lifetime because you never know when you do get a bite it could be the one.My biggest bass has come from fork it 9.6lb.The same day I landed a 9,several in the 6-8lb range.Absolutly the best day fishing in my life. That's why you should never quit fishing fork(take a break every once in a while)but never quit fishing fork.

Fishing was tough... main lake and secondaries had been producing...weightless baits....not really a good combo when the wind is gusting to 49mph and 43mph

Interesting comment about the farm ponds. A buddy of mine has a pond on his property at Fork and if they aren't biting on the pond you can bet it will be a tough day on the lake. I makes a nice little lab for what the fish are doing activity-wise.

Fork is not a lake that favors dirty water. All the good features about that lake are in deeper water and when it's like this it forces fish to relate shallower. It just also seems that Florida bass don't bite well in dirt. The average size fish at Fork brings me there, but I'd rather fish other lakes when it's like this. Now, when they get off the banks, it's hard not to be there.

It is all how you fish the lake. For weeks now, I have watched boat, after boat, after boat, throwing white spinnerbaits out there. They will move thru an area, maybe catch 1 fish, then keep on moving. Why would you not slow down and fish the area you got bit?
I dont know how many times that I will get a bite or catch a fish, then milk it, and catch a bunch more fish there. Sometimes you just have to slow down.
But sometimes you just have those days. Trust me, I had one Saturday. Couldn't hardly get bit, while my partner rained havoc on them.
Best advice I can give is to slow down and really wok areas good when you get bit.

I saw some nice stringers of fish brought to the scale in the Media Super Teams event Saturday, along with reports of large slot fish--but no overs.
The wind was a bear out there Sat&Sun, don't let last weekend ruin your opinion of the Lake. It's still one of the best around IMHO..
