This is the truth people! Right there on the dock I was fishing with hot dogs as bait and pulled in the biggest bluegill I've ever seen. Plus if yall look up the lake record its 10 inches. They have to have pics to give out that certification. I have pictures of mine (9 and 3/4 inches)as well but since I just caught the fish yesterday, you will have to stay tuned for the pics, or just believe and go get some big bluegills!

Lived in Llano for years. Inks is a beautiful lake. Lots of friendly deer to feed that will come to your camp and visit ya.
Some very big cats and striper live in Inks. If you seek other, you have alot of options, real close.

Okay, just finished a day of kayak fishing on Inks Lake. I caught a couple dozen bluegill/shellcrackers/pumpkinseeds but nothing much else.
I went to see if I could catch any bass. I threw everything at the water and not a single nibble. So, I switch to 3" trout worms and caught a 4" spotted bass. I am beginning to suspect that there are very few bass in that lake.
Baits used to catch all the bream were Berkely honey worms and powerworm trout worms.

I lived in Burnet for a couple of years and can vouch for the big bluegills. They can be caught anywhere along the shoreline and love small lures. There is a good population of channel cat also, as well as some reel busting carp. Inks is a beautiful lake and has abundant bank access. Its very family friendly and the folks are super. Go get you some
PB - Common carp 18lb PB - Buffalo 15lb PB - Drum 12lb PB - Bass 9.6lb PB - Crappie 2.5lb Channel- 8 lb Pollywog - 1,234,654 Kids are the future of our sport! Carp on!

Inks is a great lake. I pretty much spent every summer there growing up and have logged alot of hours catching fish. I can vouch for the nice size of the gills and the other sunfish species in the lake. As for bass, there are plenty of them but not all that much in the way of size, pretty easy to catch a 5 fish limit but nothing to write home about.
The bluegills and black bass on Inks tend to relate to hard structure as there is a noted lack of subsurface vegetation. You can pull plenty of both species off of boat docks all summer long throwing 4" worms on light line (4#) or small minnow imitators for the gills.
Far and away though the best bet for catching both on Inks is to concentrate on the abundant granite structure in the lake. Whereever there are rocks I have always found fish. You can catch gills on any of the main lake points and coves (especially on the park side) by tossing small grubs or live baits (worms, mealworms, crickets). Two solid other spots are the creek arms up the river past the bridge below Buchanan Dam, or all the way down river there is a major creek arm that dumps in by Inks Dam. My favorite piece of structure by far is the large rockpile that is located on the point where the lower creek arm dumps into the lake, I've been told that it is rock that was blasted out when they made the damn. It rises all the way from the main river channel to within inches of the surface and has an old chairstand on it that was used by Camp Longhorn for when they did sailing/regattas.
Fishing the rock pile is guaranteed to send you home skunk-free. Fish it with a variety of 4" plastics for bass or small grubs, crawfish and minnow imitators for the gills.
Just talking about it gives me the itch to be down there fishing some of my favorite holes. We've caught plenty of sunfish there over the years and some with some nice size, 8-9" wasn't the norm but not uncommon either. Hope this helps some of you out, would definitely encourage you to get down there and spend some time on the water. The State Park shoreline makes for some great access especially to those in small craft such as kayaks and canoes.
