Have the hull checked thoroughly for structural integrity. These boats have issues with transom, stingers, and floors. Lot of wood in them, which is not necessarily bad, unless it has gotten wet.

Serious problems with rotting wood in transoms and stringers.
Every one that someone tried to trade in had big issues. Be Cautious!!!

They were built not far from my home. Walk away.
I know it's pretty and I know it's cheap and I know you want a new boat. But unless you are only buying the engine and trailer...and paying less than $2000...dont do it man.

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

TideCrap...it wasn't trying to be funny.

There's some cheaper built boats out there, just none come to mind.

I have never owned one but I have never heard anything positive about them it's all been negative. If it was me I would keep looking. Chances are if it looks like a kick a$$ deal there is a reason behind it.

I bought one new in 91, I wasn't educated yet as well as I thought I was. I was very fortunate in the fact I never had any problems out of it. I always kept it in the garage so it never sat out in the weather. Which I attribute to it lasting 10 years until I traded it in on a new 01 Triton. When the dealer offered me $4k I jumped all over that. The hulls on these boats are paper thin. I once took a flashlight and turned out the lights in the garage and shinned it through the bottom and could see bright light through the carpet seems. A friend of mine had one and he hit a stump and ripped the transom off of his. eeks

I second Tidecrap and run do not walk. There is a reason they went out of business pretty quick. Lots of other junk built in the 80s also.

I had a Spitfire of about the same year. Cap broke around the corners under the compartment lids. I also got a crack right along the keel (should be strongest part of boat). The keel crack was caused from centering on a stump with the trolling motor. If this caused cracks in my Ranger it would have been in the boat graveyard long ago. I cannot even begin to estimate how many stumps I have run up on with the Ranger. Some I have even had to crank the big motor to get off.
