GoneFishen, I would love to hear more input on how best to ship these things. Especially from someone in the freight business. I'm thinking I can send them disassembled in a box.

Wow! I bought 3 Creek Company 8' ODC Classic toons that the shipping weight of each was 52#'s and it cost $81 to ship all three UPS ground. It took about a week to get them. Of course CC may have some kind of volume discount account.

I just bought ODC 420 and got ripped on the shipping charges. They had a $15 "shipping surcharge" on the already high charge for a lightweight 15# compact shipping box item: http://creekcompany.com/product.php?productid=16291&cat=0&page=&featured=Y

Don't think there will be any breaks on a shipping charge if the foam toons are considered "oversize" regardless of how light weight they are.

If I were getting into foam toons for a business, I would have a super salesman convince sports stores like Academy to handle a few on a trial basis. Otherwise take a U haul full of them and go to the boat shows and try to sell there. I think a big one is coming up in the next week or so at Corpus.

JMHO, Hope this helps.

Good idea porta. A boat show would be a good place to sell a few. I am also considering a demonstration event at a local lake where I would bring some out and let whoever wanted to kick around in them and see how well they perform. I would appreciate input from anybody out there as to whether they would be interested in something like this and which lake or pond would work best. Heck, I might even cook some hot dogs or something if I can get some response.

Are you trying to ship them already assembled?? How heavy is the entire package?? Maybe offer them without the seat and ppl can buy the seat, from Academy,BassPro etc.

I like the boat show idea but I bet the "demo days" idea would be a big hit. Most of the kayak sellers in the metromess have these every so often and from what Ive read they do pretty well with them. I dont really need one but if it were on a day I could make it I would like to try one.

Yeah, thought about that one. I can disassemble and box em up but it ends up being a pretty large box. The entire package weighs about 50 pounds, just guessing.

How bout it folks? Anybody up for a free hot dog and boat ride. I will need commitments from at least 5 or 6. Dont forget to suggest a lake or pond.

You may want to mention it in the crappie, bank fishing and classified also.

Commitments to be there- not to buy one.
Good idea john. I'll do that.
