Would anyone be interested in putting together a TFF trip to the FL Keys in 2004?

I won't have any vacation left to go...have three weddings and a class reunion to go to in 2004. Be lucky to get any fishing in period. Fortunately, one of the weddings (in August) is in Bemus Point, NY, right on the shores of Chautauqua Lake, world famous for its muskie fishing. I might try to wet a line there....let's do it up there next year, then Florida in 2005!

YEI am retired in good health and can finance such a trip. How would we go,air, car or boat. Peter Jenkins has writen extensively of the keyes in his latest book about a 2 year journey from the keyes to the mouth of the Rio Grande. Most interesting reading

June, July or August would be a good time - during the dolphin season.

You can fly AA round trip from Dallas to Miami for around $215. The drive from Miami airport is about 2 hours. Renting a van would be the way to go, depending on how many people were interested.
Islamorada or Marathon would be good places to stay. You can find a decent motel with rooms that have 2 queen beds for around $75 - $85 a night. Offshore private charters can usually accommodate 4 people 8 hour trips are around $550. There are also the party boats at around $35 for 4 hours of reef fishing.
Just some ideas about expenses.

I just got back from the Keys and it was a blast! It is definitely a trip worth taking. Odd dealing with a sunburn in December however [This message has been edited by craigorio (edited 01-01-2004).]

I'm interested, but absolutely NOT in the summer. I lived in Key West for 18 months and the summers are miserable! February and March are excellent months both for weather and quality fishing. Keep us posted!

Just got back from Fort Myers, wifes family lives there. I used to fish Islamorada often, the beauty for offshore fishing there, within a few minutes you can be in 300' of water More fishing time and less ride! I could prolly convince the wife to let me drop her off at her moms while I go to Islamorada. Great idea, I'm definately interested. Get a few of these guys stalking Snook in the back bays and we may not get them back to TX.

Yes, yes and yes. But middle of summer sounds fairly miserable. Of course, I really don't care as long as we can keep the hooks hooked. Don't have any experience in the offshore variety so I'll leave it up to you experts.
