I bought a new rod, and I really like it alot. But my question is.....Can a rod be too sensitive? For example, the bass were eating my chigger craw pencers because I was setting the hook too early (they were not perch, because I would put another one on and let the fish eat it and catch the bass the second time). I know...I was probably not using what the fish really wanted to eat because if they really wanted it they would have taken the whole lure the first time, but the idea/question is still the same? Can a rod be too sensitive? Thanks for your thoughts and comments!

A Craws Pincher's in real life pose a threat to Bass so they hit to disable them, spit'em out and then pick'em back up. I like to watch the line for movement to the side before setting the hook when fishing craws. Other times they will simply try to take your rod away from you. At least you solved your own problem by giving them time to eat the bait.

+1 on what Bazz said. I saw an article on this a while back. I will usually throw the same one back at em, and if they don't take it or they are still peckin at it, change it up a lil. Maybe the fall rate, color, size need to be tweaked a little. But not too much, cause they are hittin it.

Not sure which lake you was on but that sounds like what bedding fish do. Or they may not have been in a positive feeding mood. They can't bark so their warning is to just nip at a bait. The second time in their house they said "well you didn't learn the first time, now I'm going to crush you"

I recently purchased a new Dobyn's jig rod and have been going through the same thing. You get used to the feel pretty quick and then you'll start to see the benefits of the extra sensitivity.

You have to adjust to the sensitivity of the high end rods. Sort out all of the extras it picks up. Another bait that is kind of that way is the RattleSnake. I learned in the demo tank why I missed several fish on it.
They do one of two things with it: 1. Pick it up by the tail, spit it out, then inhale it. 2. Pick it up by the tail, swim off with it and then inhale it.
Be patient. We had to let our fish swim off with it yesterday at Bob Sandlin to catch them. That is hard to do in a tournament. But, you have to force yourself to do it.

Grant's rods are wicked. I've been using one of his 7' heavies for pitchin.
Catch em, kiss em, let em go
