But wait, what if it was sharelunker #500 possibly on the line......?

If everyone focused on the important things in life, then there would be a shortage of fishing poles.

If I paid to have him put me on fish. He better be letting me catch it. Did this happen?

It would depend on the guide.I would probably let him catch it unless he was a total turd.I can understand what it would do for him. But if it came from one of his clients it might do more for him.

I have no idea. Here is the rest of the story..... This was probably in '92. This fellow was in the cabin next door at the Shoemakers place I think. If anybody knows the place it was basically two cabins in someones yard. Good folks. We had it last week of March for 15 years or so. Said fellow seemed solid. He chose to let the guide try evidently and nobody caught it. He didn't mention the guides name.

And I know who "Jeff" is.

I would let my client try to catch the fish... Knowing my day too will come. Let the light shine on the client; for a lot of guys hireing guides, this is one of possibly few times they fish, get a shot at a big fish... It's the point of being a guide and not a guides client. You hire them to do their job, put you on fish.
I also guide deer hunts during the winter and have put some guys on some "once in a lifetime" deer...Myself, I haven't shot a deer in over 6 years.
Just the way i see it. You don't pay the "milk man" to drink the milk, you pay him to deliver. (just thought of that one, and I like it!)

I have never thought guides should fish anyway - unless they ask you if it is OK. If the customer says it is OK - then it is OK.

You are paying them to guide you - not to fish. I don't need to pay $300 or $400 to watch a guy catch a trophy fish I might have caught - and I know somebody this happened to. What if the guide is fishing and he catches a 10 pounder off a point that you very well could have caught? Not cool.

Sounds like a guide my father and I used on Lake Fork. He did find the fish and let us fish where the smaller fish were. When we ran across the lake to another spot where some larger fish were, he pointed the nose of the boat towards the timber (isolated) and began flipping. He did catch some nice ones while we were unable to get anything. By the way was "Missy" caught in 1989?
