Me and Hendo fished from the rapids downstream this AM and only picked up a few small ones. Decided to troll later and that didn't help. Saw some guys fishing with minnows but didn't see any record numbers getting caught. Only bright spot was I outfished him. Wondering if I've got bad luck, bad timing or if the run has really gotten fired up yet. This is a fishing forum and I've known fishermen to exaggerate. enjoy it wad...bask in it...cuz you know it only happens about once every 3 years.

Never been there, but I'd guess crappie. Most of your public docks...especially docks called "crappie docks" have lots of brush underneath and around them to attract crappie. Especially in the spring.

that pier is great for whites pre and post spawn run. And excellent throughout the spring to mid summer for crappie.

So do you think they are still moving up? I would like to try again around Rebecca Creek area. I am too stubborn for my own good! Just being out on the water is nice, but I'd like to catch some up there too. I've caught them on the Nueces, Pedernales and Medina today but still skunked on the Guad.

I've been up to the rapids a couple of times now, and this is my take on those white bass.
You have to remember that the lake was down for a good while, like maybe at least almost three seasons, and a lot of the areas that are fishable now were high and dry all that time.
A lot of those banks where I now fish used to be pretty barren but now have a lot of cover in the form of small bushes and the sand bars have been rearranged.
That scatters the fish and makes them a little harder to get at with your jigs, and the fact is they aren't all concentrated in one area like they used to be.
Places that used to hold fish don't hold as many, and also I believe there is fewer fish than in years past due to the low water we've had so the spawns weren't as successful as in years past.
Throw in the variations and unsettled weather and temperatures and you have some pretty confused fish in what they are trying to accomplish.
It should settle down, but by then the bass may be headed back to the summer patterns in the main lake.

I totally agree Jimbo. Alot of areas to spawn for a probably smaller population of white bass.

It's been a few years but I do remember similar conditions and almost everyone all but gave up on the white bass run, and the one's who stayed with it found whites biting there long into the month of April, so it still could happen.
Keep your fingers crossed!

Welcome to the forum!
Up from the Rebecca Creek boat launch which the real name is Cypress Creek launch #11 but if you call it RC everyone knows what you are talking about.
Anyway what is usually refered to as the rapids is upriver about 4 miles up you come to the big house, or mansion as some call it on the right and it's not far off the river bank and when you see it you'll know it's the one we talk about.
Anyway usuall from that big house up to the rapids or swift water is where most fish.
You can go up past that area now with the motor trimmed up or with a jet powered boat it's a piece of cake, but normally everyone just fishes up to that point and back.
There is no public access to get to that area and only by boat is the best and only way to get there.
If your in shape and have a kayak you could paddle up there like a couple guys I saw this morning, but when the wind is up you may wish you hadn't as coming back through those canyons it's like a wind tunnel through there.
Use ultra light, and small jigs or roadrunners in white or chartruse, and also small rattle traps, Shad Raps, and spoons work as well.
Hope this helped ya!
