The fur (mold) is floating on top of the water. May have to go get some cheap beer. Not sure I can waste a Shiner Frost on grain.
BTW - is it not supposed to get moldy? No it can be moldy... I swirl mine around once a day... mine also gets a kind of pink tint to it.. and is very bubbly...

Sounds like a bucket of homemade wine me and a buddy tried to make in college. That apartment was never the same, especially the closet where the bucket was fermenting! Good times...

Make sure you do not stir the "fur" into the air. Just push it into the water slowly and downwind from your face. I yanked the lid off a 5 gal bucket 2 years ago and got a face full of wind blown "dust" from the fur crop. I didn't think anything about it (beside the obvious smell) for about two hours when the fever and heaving set in. Going in through my lungs, the infection went systemic took a very long time to get well.
That is the sole reason I stopped "growing my own" and just buy large bags of fish food pellets from the farm store.
Keeping your bucket in the sun and painting it black will accelerate the fermentation and anything reflective ( like a windshield sun screen ) can be positioned behind / around it to get even more light on it. You can have a 80 degree bucket on a 50 degree day. Keep some of this batch for a starter on the next batch and stir it in well.
Good luck, Phill

Good luck, Phill Thanks for sharing. I'd rather not go there and I am allergic to mold. I really appreciate it. Sorry you went through that.

Glad I'm not the only 1 that's done that... If you can stand being around it... it's not ready. Try putting it in the furnace closet and declare to your wife that's it's in the name of Science... The black eye will heal long before the smell is gone Requiring a BioChem suit just to handle the jug ... it's ready
I tried to be normal but it got boring so it's just back to being ME~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Never argue with an Idiot, They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
