The 2nd and 3rd flies look like the swivel is not attached to the hook shank. Are they designed to rotate around the shank as well as spin?

Your obsevation is corrrect sir.
It all depends on what I am fishing for and what kind of action I prefer
Swivel attached to hook shank for lethargic fish - non-attached for aggressive fish - swivel rotates around hook shank as an in-line spinner bait and spinner blde spins as well.
cheers

I had never noticed that particular detail before. Who would have thought there was even more goodness to be had in a Glazener's Spinster? smile

Probably an 0 but you can use any size shape or fashion - I even like a small willowleaf sometimes.

Something a little different. I will have to give George credit for the inspiration on the spinnyness though. The sandies loved the all white #4 spinster clouser yesterday! thumb

that's a nice fly derik, interesting, I like the idea of the blade being at the back of the fly, looks like a sand bass slayer to me.

I think I need to tie a few of those up to toss at the docks.

This was the "sandie candy" if you may
The first fly is way to big for your average sandie as it is tied on a 2/0 worm hook.

These all look great!

I have always wanted to add spinnners, but I can't find them in any shops. I haven't got around to finding a place to order them online. Any suggestions? What size swivel do you guys use how and what do you use to attach them?

You just put the spinner on behind the eye of the hook. Don't tie in too tight behind it, or the spinner won't spin. I have used small-large spinners. It depends on the size hook you use, as to what size spinner you need.

I'm sure George will pop up presently to show how the best way to tie Spinsters and their progeny. I've lashed together a few clousers and such with spinners and they seem to perform well. I've also used the Beetle Spin rigs by removing the weighted jig portion and substituting a woolly bugger or clouser. It doesn't cast as well as a Spinster, but it does give you a lot of options with regard to color and size if you don't tie.

As for Pistol Petes and their non-patented imitations, I've had some success with them, but just don't fish them as often as I should. They are a real pain to fish if there is any filamentous algae about, but what isn't? Here are a few I've managed to not mangle too badly at the vise.

Derik, I haven't compared prices recently but at one time Barlow had the best EC413 jig hook prices but did not have the smaller sizes split rings and spinner blades.

Check their on-line catalogs.

Barlows has them as well as NetCraft. There were a few good threads here lately by George Glazener and a few others with some great ideas. Try looking under George's posts for some fine ideas.

I hope so - I am taking them down to Colorado Bend with me tomorrow to see if the white bass like them.

I ordered parts to make some larger ones for Striper also.
