I fished Lavon for 20 years and agree completely. When they are letting water out you are usually better off to go back to the house and have a cold one. Even the Crappie fishing gets really slow when the water is moving. Took me several years to figure it out, but I am completely sure the problem is those Lavon bass never did learn to read. They sure don't do what the books I read say they should be doing.

Fork always gives me fits when the gates are open. I talked to a Parks and wildlife rep about this, his position was that any lake with Florida strain bass will not react favorably to dropping water. The fish normally dont move far and seem to relate to something a little deeper close by.

In my experience:
The Dam Current created by the Dam Water Release will make the Dam Fish move to the deeper Dam Cover and makes the Dam Fishing a little more Dam tough unless you are a pretty Dam Good Fisherman! (some help from cousin Eddie 'Vegas Vacation')

Hope this helps!!!

I always thought it meant something bad to the fish and they would go deeper as a survival instinct. Most of the time when you see flooded areas that get cut off from the main water as the water drops, there are usually no fish when it dries up. They follow the deeper water and get out.Just a theory.I know ther are exceptions but most get out.

fishing is positively affected in a river system with current, I dont think there is anything to debate about that.

the problem is releasing water quickly in lowland resovoirs has a negative affect on fish. the changing pressure affects the swim bladder and the fish move up or suspend in the water column until the water level stabilizes.Suspending fish in an unstable water level are very difficult to catch

Thanks for all the info.
Lavon is still releasing and I did manage 2 yesterday.
1 - 4 lbs-10 oz and a small one that maybe was a pound. The 4 is a pretty big one by Lavon standards.
I ended up fishing shallow near deep. I also scouted a some new spots the look promising.
