Be sure to put the s on floatpro(s). There's another site called floatpro and it is under construction. I was wondering if you knew if your foam is 1# or 2# ? I'm looking in to using the 2# and they say it is twice as dense. If you've had yours for that long and its 1#, then I'd say 1# is plenty good!

How tall are the pontoons? I know alot of the inflatable ones are 16" diameter. How does that compare? Also did you have to shape the pontoons or did you find them premade like that?

Thanks K.D.! The pontoons are 12" in diameter and I found them premade. After doing a little research, I discovered 1 cubic foot of foam will float 55 pounds. The trick was to figure how many cubic feet were in a 12" cylinder by 48" long. It's been too long since I took math class but I came up with 3.16 cubic feet (x2). I could make the pontoons longer if need be.

So you're at 48" long pontoon and it holds 350 lbs? That's pretty impressive! Not many toons out there at 48" long will hold that much. Heck alot of the 7-8 footers won't do that or much more.

That's great for the guys with inflatables to use as an alternative when their fabric and/or bladders wear out. It looks like they can keep their existing frames and adapt them to the styrofoam pontoons.

That's the math working. I'm saying 250 lbs. max, or go with longer pontoons. Just trying to keep it safe!

I like it, i was wondering do you all build the frames or reuse pontoon frames, I am working on something sumular. i am using 12"x 12" x 4' (8 cubic ft) blocks of foam completly caged in by a tubing frame. i have read that you get about 30% more floatation using square insead of round toons but i am no engineer. I am about 90% done and would love to post pics when conmpeted if i can figure out how to do it. nice job on the boat would like to see it in action.
