Two years ago me and my brother were fishing one of our favorite spots Sunday morning at Amistad while the Elite Series was taking place and down to the final 12. At about 8:30 a large group of boats and a helicopter came right on top of us. The group of boats included Mike McClellan and a group of spectator boats. The heli hovered right over our boat while filiming McLellan. We pulled up the trolling motor and moved on to another spot and let him, the spectators and the helicopter have that magical point where he ended up with a 4th place finish (I think) in the event. Our thinking was this guy was trying to make a living and we were just there to have fun. Plenty of good water at Amistad anyway.

I am not a fan of tournaments and tournament fisherman for several reasons so I would not move. If you have ever been on Lake Fork with the Mickey D thing going on you might sour on tournaments too. Since I am not a fan of them I got great satisfaction at Texoma once. I was killing time at my campsite and threw a shad out to try to get a catfish. A tournament fisherman pulled up dropped his TM and asked if I had caught anything. I said yes and pulled a 6.5 lb bass out my bucket. Now I rarely keep a bass but this one was bleeding pretty good. He promptly picked up and headed somewhere else.

the whole aaron martens deal was that he pulled up on a spot, i forget what lake but there was a local tournament going on i believe and a couple guys had been catching some schooling bass where aaron had been catching fish all 3 days of the tournament, and he had been complaining about it, bc that was his only good spot that he had produced from

i would rather watch and learn techniques and presentations from these pros- than to sit on a spot and whack the bass that might have cost them half a million in cash.

x2. I dont have anything to prove, staying messing with some guy that is fishing for his living!!! No telling how much you could learn from them anyways!

If they asked my politely i would move on my way. My cousin was fishing the river the year the classic was on it in a local tourney. Ike came flying up and started hollering that my cousin was on his hole and demanding him to leave. Needless to say Ike had company in his hole for the rest of the day from my cousin. If he would have asked my cousin nicely then there wouldnt have been a problem but he went about it all wrong.

If say I am fishing a spot can they knock me off that spot? Just curious

No, they can't "Knock you off that spot"...However, one would think that if someone were fishing for $500,000, common courtesy would dictate giving the professional angler all the space he wanted or needed. I saw the tournament on TV where Aaron Martens mentioned that he was fishing a big money tournament and the guy that was on his spot said he was fishing one too....Probably a club tournament. It seems to me that when someone is fishing for that kind of money, and they are not goiing to be coming back for a year or more, one could learn more by watching the pro than trying to catch the pro's fish....

I do not care what they are fishing for. The lake is public and we all have the same rights to it. If tournaments paid some kind of fee to rent the lake then fine. Tournament fisherman are the most arrogant group of people I have ever met. Ray Scott is one of the worst. I guess they are just following the leader. It it were not for the general public buying gear these guys promote they would not even exist.

Since lots of people viewing this thread here is another question. Can a fly rod be used? There be a lot of advanatages to using one.

You can use a flyrod as long as it meets the length requirements, which I think says that rods can be no longer than 8 feet. The Sage Largemouth and Smallmouth flyrods would fit the bill - they're made short for that very purpose.

I know they try their best to edit it but I've seen Mike Iaconelli go off on a rant a couple times on camera & they have suddenly cut to another fisherman

I tried to be normal but it got boring so it's just back to being ME~
