I think the above mentioned spectator boat issue would really be a problem on Fork. People would come from all over and see that "open water" and think the boat lanes are just a suggestion. Someone would die.

Florida has slot limit lakes and the TD simply went to the FWC and was allowed to file for a 1-2 day waiver for all participants on the slot limits, based on the fact all fish were released and cared for during the tourney. That is how most big tourneys were ran when I fished them. I guess I just assumed this was the case in Texas as well.. Does this type of waiver not exist here in Texas?

I would love to go and watch them locally and would even consider being a voluteer at the event. When BASS events fished Lake Toho I got to see some VERY interesting tactics. Certainly worth watching them on the water. For example I saw a one guy fishing a DD22 over hydrilla in 6' of water, super slow rolling the DD22 6"-8" under the surface and catching them pretty good. At no point in my life would it occur to me to even try that had I not seen it. He didn't win but it was an insteresting approach.

DFW should certainly attract the right crowds! Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and even us Okie's would be on the road to watch it.

I am just getting tired of them alternating ,Red River, Lay Lake, Delta, Red river. Not in that particular order, it just seems like they keep going to the same places. Amistad or Falcon would be cool. Lewisville would be good. KVD did well there. Hotels, Restaurants, Shopping for the wives, and plenty of venues for the weigh in in DFW.

That is one reason you consistantly see the cities with casino's host the events. The casino's help out with alot of the big events as they know they will recoop their cost multiple times by people staying at the hotels, shopping and gambling.

Alot of the area that are hosting the big events in the east have been doing it for a long time and the entire area has one tourism board that will work with a group of cities to bring events in. They have arleady figured out one city can't do it alone without help, so they team up to get it done.

We have the lakes, and the people, but unfortunatly we dont have the leadership and relationship's between cities to get it done anytime soon.

I disagree,
If you get the right promoters and get the right cities involved and show how much of a return there would be it can happen.

If the metromess can get a freaking Superbowl and NBA allstar by god they should be able to put on a bassmasters Classic for god sake.

I would want to hold the Classic on a lake with a 5-14 limit that has plenty of room for spectator boats and the anglers.

I think that we could get record attendance at the classic if it was held here.

I was wondering what everyone else thought would be a good classic lake/place to hold the weigh-in.

I think that Lewisville then hold the Weigh-in at the AAC would be easy but the Classic is in the middle of the Mavs & stars seasons...........

Who's Chamber of Commerce is going to pony up the money to get them to come to the Metro-Mess?
Smaller towns work out best because you have one organization (or maybe 2-3) who foots the bill.
Why would say Ft. Worth help pay for it if they don't see much in the return, or what about the smaller communities like Lewisville, assuming thats where they held the tournament. Wouldn't most of the money go other places if they held the weigh in and extravaganza in Arlington?

The lakes that they have the classics on are lame if you ask me. Put the classic where there are a high density of hawgs and that will get people more interested. I assume there would be alot more spectators in a Texas classic as opposed to these other cities.

Ray Hubbard or Lewisville with the weigh in at Jerry world would be awesome. Did you have to buy a ticket to go to the weigh in at all the prevous classics? Ive never been so I dont know but I promise ole Jerry would charge a premium to use his shrine. I'd pay to go.

I don't believe this to be an accurate statement. I am in the industry and can tell you that one of the main reasons why we are getting a super bowl next year is because of all of the cities working together.

They will do it for the super bowl but not sure that there is enough interest in the classic. But the relationships are there.

It could happen here in a number of ways, we have so many good lakes all over Texas and plenty of venues that will hold that number of people. Just dont think anywhere in Texas would dish out the money like that said.
And if they had it at Texoma and the weigh in was at Winstar, Not sure on this but that quickly becomes a Classic in Oklahoma i would think. I dont want it oklahoma anymore than i want it in Alabama or Louisisana! smile

I am sure that the main reason the Superbowl is here is due to Jerry. But I agree we have the mean's but I don't think they have the want.
The marketing of a Classic vs the Superbowl are two completely different worlds. The Superbowl is sold world wide, the classic is sold to pretty specific group. Anyone outside of that group, would probably care less.
I would love to see it, but I really think that it would be a hard sell to get enough funding together from the surrounding cities to make it happen. It just doesn't have the pubilicity or rate of return that some of the BIG events do.
