Once on Amistad and it was one of the best learning experiences ever... go for it if he is a good guide he will show you exactly what you want, I learned exactly what you are looking to learn on a guided trip with Kurt Dove...

Obviously you need to do some homework before you hire him but there are several really good ones on TFF for Fork. You didn't say what lake you wanted to learn.

But for my money if I was going to book one I would at least go to a lake that is known for big fish.

I hire a guide for knowledge, both of a body of water and the tips that will help me in the future to be a better fisherman. Also how they say to work a lure, the little sudtle tips they give you are what I pay for. I've hired good guide and bad guides. I agree with Ken A. Do your homework.

I hired a "famous" guide and my worst fear came true, we caught a couple of dinks and my wife caught nothing. BUT... I understand bad days and it was just a bad day, he did everything he could to get us on fish, even going past normal quitting time. I did get a very long question and answer session and he showed me several techniques that I use today with great success. So with that being said I took it as a positive experience. Will I hire another guide? Time will tell.

Have done it many times. Mainly, when I dont have alot of time to figure out the new lake. Or if it is cheaper than taking my boat fuel etc. . They are a big help.

I was almost exclusively a bank beater for years. A couple of years ago I started fishing Falcon and while I caught some nice fish occasionally, it was nothing like I knew Falcon could produce.

I hired Jim Edwards and my wife (who is not a stick) and me learned about fishing deeper at the lake. She caught an 8.1 and I caught the biggest sack of my life all in 20 feet plus of water. The next day without Jim my wife got another 8 plus.

Since then my nice fish to dink ratio is so much better and it all can be traced to that guided trip.

Long story short, a good guided trip is worth its weight in gold. The key is to me though is to go out and fish in a method you have no confidence in and really learn it.

Never. Normally on a tight budget. Plus I enjoy piecing the puzzle together with my partner... Dan

I will guarantee this. If you hire the right one you will learn more in one day than you will in a year by yourself.

Ken hired me as a "follow boat" one year in the Summer. Ken learned alot about C-Rigs that day! rolfmao

I hired one last year at Rayburn. I am kind of tight with my money and always hesitated to do so, but I went ahead and pulled the trigger last year. The guide came highly recommended from this site. Well, just a couple of days before the trip, he send me an email asking me if it would be OK if he put me on a boat with a different guide. He gave this guy the highest accolades and kudos he could a person. So with some hesitation, I accepted. Well, we get there and this guy had ALL ancient equipment, and when I mean ancient, I mean, even the hooks on his crank baits were rusted out. His baot was an '80s model Skeeter, and all his electronics were way outdated also. Then he acted like everything he had was one of a kind and irreplaceable. Which it was not, by any stretch of the imagination. So all I learned that day for $350 was that the guide was a cheap [censored] and all the areas I should not fish. Needles to say, I did not tip the guy. It will be a long long time before I waste my money on another guide, and when I do, it will probably be for a different species other than bass, as I am already pretty good at that myself.

I hired one in Florida when my Son and I fished Lake Kissimmee. It was a blast.

I hire guides quite often ... (1) To learn, (2) To have some fun. I have only hired guides for Stripers and crappie thus far. Bass fishing is too easy. JK
