Headed out to Cedar Creek today. I will give an update this evening, however I went this past Wednesday and had no luck not even a bite. There were a few people with 2-3 white bass. They had been fishing since 7am. I showed up on Wednesday at 11:45am and had no luck. I finally gave up after serveral hours of walking the creek.

I really like the pictures of the eagles. I saw a pair of eagles on Conroe a couple of weeks back. I have not had the chance to come over and fish with you guys but it is hotter than a firecracker on Conroe for whites. Keep up the good reports and maybe I will get that way in the next week or two.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Most people park by the Cedar Creek bridge: http://maps.google.com/?q=Cedar+Creek+Bridge@30.270653,-96.67016
and go bank-fishing either down or upstream. It's not for boat fishing, I'm afraid.
Open the above in google-map and you can get directions from CS.

thanks for directions. I am dying to start fishing. never tried bank fishing, but I am going to beg hubby to take us this weekend.
how long does it take for the fish to move from the creeks to the lake? we killed them on the lake last year, but it was so late in the year because of the low water. i assume that because of high water they will be in the lakes sooner, but not sure how soon??? I'm new to this fishing thing and just trying to understand it.

In normal years (the ones with rain) the whitebass will begin moving up the lake into the creeks in January but everything seems to revolve around flood events. The action in the creeks is best in wet years like this one so far. The thing to understand about whitebass is that not all the fish move into the creeks at the same time or at all. The TPWD inland fisheries guy tells me that their gill net surveys at Lake Somerville always have whitebass in good numbers no matter what time of year. Also the bank fishing at Birch Creek and other parks is always good this time of year. On average the whitebass caught from bank fishing Birch creek park are the biggest I've ever seen and I'm not talking about hybrids, these are 17 inch true whitebass females..

Went to Irvin bridge yesterday from 3-dark. Came away with 7 from downstream. Good current and clearing up. Most said it was kinda slow most of the day but 2 guys walked out when I got there with limits. Said it took about 1.5 hrs with a tube jig chart w/red tip. I caught most on a chart/black shad on red roadrunner or pink plain jig head. Saw many people with 9-10 fish. Seemed best right at dusk. lots of cars.

I'll bet the cloudy skies helped the bite all day!
