I got another good report from a friend that fished Nails creek Wednesday. Pretty much an afternoon bite.. Should be the same Thursday. I'll be heading up birch creek very early am hoping to get a peek at the eagles and maybe a good photo or two if I'm lucky.. I'll explore the creek and area in the morning until it warms up some then work on the fish.. Birch creek is fly fishable in the upper parts but won't take a lot of pressure like the yegua or nails can..

After seeing all the reports, I decided to try my luck out on the creeks Wednesday. Ran down to Irwin with a buddy and saw a dude bowfishing on the bridge itself for whatever, but it looked kinda interesting. Alot of cars, so we decided to keep driving to Nails. Started walking into the WMA area and fished pretty hard for two hours to grind out two fish. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but any time out on the water is good time. Went out today to try out my luck again, and had just about the same luck. Talked to a few other fisherman, but they seemed to have just as difficult of a time catching them as I did. Dunno where they might be, and what they're biting, but fishing has been pretty tough.

Sorry to report so late....

Like Doug said it is tough out there. We started at Cedar, I talked to several anglers and they were catching them, but it was every now and then. One guy had 15, but he was working one hole the whole time. We caught 3 at Cedar and decided to move on. At Nails we did much better, we caught them in spirts. We left with about 10 from Nails and they were huge. Two of them were over 16 inches and the males were 14 to 15. We drove to 124 and like Doug said, it is dropping and dropping fast. Its still muddy, but several people had stringers of 5 or 6. With the gate open and Yegua dropping all that water is running into Nails. At some bends it seem like the current was going the other way. Nails was stained but full.

I went out there thursday. Fished Cedar creek after reading the post and caught fifteen about 1/4 mile up creek from bridge. Stayed about two hours there and stopped at Irwin and caught ten more in about thirty minutes. Great Day!

Just FYI. Had very good luck on orange roadrunner with spinner and chartrouse grub curly tail body. I let the lure go to the bottom and reeled it in very slow. They took it almost every cast.

OK...I am hooked and would like to fish one of the creeks of Somerville on tomorro. I will be coming from Leander(northwest of Austin). How far back in this thread should I go to find the details in terms of directions, best spot hints, best lures and colors......Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. One addition note is that I am also new to white bass fishing but I have been reading a few other threads. Is anyone going out tomorrow that I might be able to meet up with? Thanks again.

Went to Nails yesterday early and managed 12 nice ones, two of my buddies did 20 and 18. Quit at noon. Saw a few decent stringers.

Boy was it cold at 730am. Line was freezing to the guides. smile Nails was quite fishable but there was not much flow. Nice day and wished I could have stayed for the pm bite.
