indeed. Nice thing about Belgian Cast is no more tense moment of "is it gonna smack me? Will it hurt real bad?" Just a big, fat, slow, open, no-brainer toss with no wind knots involved. Well heck that just takes all the fun straight out of things, doesn't it.

I'm really enjoying the patterns that you guys have shared here. I've heard it over and over again that white bass like the "sparse" clouser, but Moreau fly takes it to a whole new level. I've tied up a few that I'm going to try out next week.
On a side note, don't bash the spinning rod guys too heavily. I'm one of the guys who will pick up a super-ultralight spinning rod with 7x tippet material as my line and hunt down white bass with any or all of the flies in this thread. I feel like there's a lot more elegance involved in casting 1/64th ounce "flies" on spider line than dealing with casting a sinking line or a "chunk and duck" cast where you're currently worried about dinging your rod tip with a lead head. Joe Robinson, an Austin sage of the flyfishing world and currently out Sportsman's Finest a few days a week, is starting a very small revolution that he's always happy to talk about. The stupidly ultralight trend might just catch on, and either way I get to tie up a batch of white bass flies.
Fear not, though. As soon as the white bass die down, I'll pull my trusty 2wt back out and start stalking Brushy Creek a couple of days a week.

Just what I need on my project list - a spin rod which will fling 1/64 oz lures.

Temple Fork has just released a rod that can go both ways really nicely. It casts a 2/3wt fly line and spin fishes with 2-3lb. Using 7x tippet material, you can easily cast 32nd and 64th oz "flies." I now have one that lives permanently in the back of my jeep.
I've tied up some of the Moreau specials, some cypert minnows, a selection of sparse clousers and some attempts at rattling clousers. I'll let you know how it works out on Monday night.

that rocks! I heard about it at Starbucks this morning. That might be my TFO rod entry.

that rocks! I heard about it at Starbucks this morning. That might be my TFO rod entry. It was odd enough when I heard that they tolerated fly tying. Now Starbucks is a hotbed of info about TFO rods??? I can't decide whether to repack my Y2K kit, or whether to take a tying kit to the local Boarders coffee lounge.

Ha, I must admit that I was caught off guard as well by the fact that Starbucks has become a hotbed of TFO gossip. The word on the street is that Sportsman's is out or will shortly be out and that TFO didn't expect the reception that the rod has gotten. Hopefully they'll be able to turn around and build a few more of the quickly. I haven't fished it yet as a fly rod, but it fishes nicely as a spinning rod. However, one of my regular fishing buddies fished the fly rod only version of it (same exact blank with a few different guides and a different reel seat) all last year and loved it. I better stop now before you guys think I work for someone in the business.
Hopefully tomorrow night I'll some good pics of what I caught with all of the suggestions in this thread. Thanks guys.

Like Bud said (and I thought he was crazy) SMALL & SPARSE is the key here. We tied up some of those bad boys during our Spring Glassic and the stripers and sandies LOVED THEM!!! The idea is to imitate a ghost (or glass) minnow.
