Brian, that is an EXTREMELY kind offer. However I do have 1/32s that are unpainted. It was the 1/64 that were already painted. (I only had a few of them) I use mostly 1/32 for crappie jigs. I need to remember to cut off the point that sticks up on them though, that bugs the fire out of me. I painted up a bunch of them, and decided the point was okay. But for the fly jig, it would bug me. Still the 1/32 seems big for fly casting. I think I could toss it okay, I am just worried about it hitting my rod. Yes, I need to learn more casts so that won't be such a problem. I seem stuck on false casting, and that limits what I can do certainly. I mainly want to be able to double haul, but I find it is difficult...just need to practice.

Kelly

For those jigs, the Belgian Cast is the way to go. It's also called the European Continuous Tension Cast when you want to lay it on thick, or the horseshoe cast when you want to use a name that actually communicates how it looks.

Instead of the classic backcast, unroll, pause, forward cast; which is where the rod breaking and head smacking comes in, you simply pull it back sidearm, bring it on up into the vertical plane and on over the top into the forward cast without ever slowing down or pausing. Basically it is a horseshoe.

I use it whenever I am casting popper/droppers or any of the chuckandduck-ish patterns. The amount of backcast space needed is greater but that's part of the game of fly fishing.

You could also bow and arrow cast it in tight spots.

Learning the bow and arrow type (also called slingshot) cast comes in handy when you least expect it. Also very handy with spinning tackle getting under docks and such. (Not that ANYone here uses such gear).

I had a tying epiphany/moment of clarity when I looked at this jig. My Congo Hair ought to be here any day now.....

smile indeed. Nice thing about Belgian Cast is no more tense moment of "is it gonna smack me? Will it hurt real bad?" Just a big, fat, slow, open, no-brainer toss with no wind knots involved.
