Any place to buy minnows near CBSP? I am planning an overnighter for Feb the 20th. Haven't decided where yet. Never been to CBSP and would like to check it out. Gf doesn't like the idea of no showers and outhouse though so it would only be 1 night. If not there then Granger or Somerville.

There is a little store right before the entrance of CBSP that sells minnows. I'm not sure of the hours they are open, but they do stay open longer in the spring & summer.

The "Bend store" there in Bend TX used to sell minnows, and probably still do. I haven't been there in 2 years though. You should also be able to buy some in Lampasas if you're coming from Austin. I bought some at "The Brown's Store" just past the Wal-Mart in Lampasas on hwy 190 towards Killeen. You can buy them in Austin and bring them with you so long as you put them on oxygen. In the past, when I've visited CBSP, I've bought them at Cabela's. They made the 2 hr trip from Buda. I'm ready to head that way soon. Let us know how you do. You'll love the scenery even if the fish aren't biting. CBSP looks similar to "Reimer's Ranch" near Hamilton Pool near Lake Travis. It is beautiful! Good Luck.
Shut up and fish!

Do you do well with minnows there. Are you fishing for whites?

If you want to check on minnows availability the Bend Store is 325-628-3523. Good luck and post up how it went.

I have done ok with minnows when the run is early or slow. Basically if jigs aren't working I switch to them. It's best if you can find holes or creek or stream mouths with a little depth. I am going to buy some the weekend after next when we go.

I have never been but always wanted to go. I know its been pretty dry lately with all the rain is it deep enough for a boat. I have a small 15 foot aluminum boat can you launch it at the park? Do you generally fish up stream, how far can you go up or down stream?
So many questions.
Thanks!

Warning on that store that sells minnows outside of the park - They don't sell beer. Its a long way to drive back into town. Be sure and come prepared. They did have plenty of minnows last year.

Hill is correct, NO beer sales in Bend. The closest place to buy beer is Lometa (approx 13 miles from Bend)NE on 581. I'm the master of running out of beer, so plan ahead. The store has minnows, ice, soft drinks, & not much else.

Thanks for the info. I normally only use lures but the gf prefers live bait. As far as beer I rarely buy at convenience stores, especially with the way the prices have gone the last few years. I just reserved a spot so I will definitely be there on the 20th. If anyone is there we'll be the ones with the 2 yellow kayaks and the green mazda pu.

Just checked the gage. Another 8/10th's today. Creeks are running again along with all the springs and seeps so look for another few days of runoff from our saturated county.

In my opinion, and generally speaking, you can do well anywhere with minnows. the thing to do is seine river minnows and use those. Spot tail, glass minnows are the best.
On the beverage issues, definately BYOB. Lampasas, Lometa, San Saba are the closer towns to Bend.
On the boat question Meg75. I've had my 14 ft jon boat in there. When you water is low, from the ramp you can man-handle the boat off the trailer into the water. When the water is up, my dad can put his 20 ft boat in there.
This rain situation sure will help things.
Shut up and fish!

Never used minnows there, always threw a net and caught shad. One throw per shad, normally legal fish with the first cast. Good luck
