Is it possible to park close enough to the bank to fish and camp out in your vehicle?
I am waiting delivery of a truck tent that alows me to use the vehicle for sleeping and fishing.
Are there more spots on that lake to camp close to shore?

I am not hunting anyone's honeyhole. I know how touchy you guys are about your favorite spots. Just looking for a likely spot to do some fishing over a week end and not have to worry about renting a camp ground or getting rousted by the police for camping where it's illegal.

Camping is not allowed on Lady Bird Lake and no spots to fish from your vehicle worth a squat. Emma Long you can camp, but not pull your vehicle to the waters edge. You can get within 20'. The utility sites are right on the water and have RV hook ups.

If you are going to be in Austin and want to camp/fish from your truck then you need to go to Pale Face park on Lake Travis. I have had good luck on the edge of the cliffs just to the right on the FLATS. Where the flats meet deeper water and the cliff walls are just starting.

Good luck grandpa

Thanks for the advise. At one time I had relatives living on Travis and did some fishing there.

Let me rephrase my question a bit. The ultimate carper, which there are more than a few on this board, set up a "bivie" tent and a pod of rods and "camp out" on the bank while waiting for a bite.
Is there any place on Emma Long that this is permitted?

What is the legal difference of sitting a recliner lounge chair in a small dome tent where you can catch 40 winks between bites and setting up a dome tent with a sleeping bag to spend the over night hours waiting for the bite?

Is it even permitted to fish over night on Emma Long?

Emma allows the overnight. You can google Emma Long Municipal Park. It has the rules and regs and such. It is a slow bite, but has some giants. You need to be able to cast long distances to get to the deeper water.

grandpa, for this last weekend there at emma it was 38.00$ that was getting there friday and leaving sunday at 11. we got a rv site, they have water and electric, i set up my bivvy about 15feet from the water and my rods/pod right there on the edge. my truck was 20ft behind me. emma long park has 11 rv sites all on the water, and tons of tent sites. right now is a great time to go there and camp the whole park is empty with maybe 2 or 3 rv's and the people in them arnt usually there.

Emma's a great spot for camping near the water. A utility site is closer to the water, but there are some tent-only sites as well that are on the water; you just have to hump your stuff over to them.

The carping is very hit-or-miss, though; you could easily blank, or you could catch some twenties and above!

Emma or one of the parks on Travis is your best bet. I have used my truck tent at both many times.

jesse iv seen it happen more than once, the summer is the worst its boat city and jetfly heaven. remember the bouys i showed you, they come inside them and blast by at 40 50 mph, the skiers do it too.but like i said, a few method ball and a 4oz weight comming at them usually stops that, or a 400yard spool of 80lb powerpro around there prop. i remember mark (ssf) one time had a boat get his line, i thought he had a run till i seen the boat haha, it took his whole spool in just a few seconds.

The farther up river you go the less boat traffic you have.

Most venues in America do not differentiate between bivvy, brolly or dome, even some of the umbrellas. To most they are all tents and consider you camping.
