One of the reasons they tell you to run thier oil is that is what they use when they do all thier testing on the product. So they know it works so its what they recommend.

Im sure that if mercury, yamaha or BRP came out and said run only pennzoil the price of pennzoil would be just as high as the their oil.

Pennzoil-ran a couple gallons in the past in another boat/motor.
all i remember is it smoked like crazy!!!

the opti i am running now blew up with 75 hrs on it.was not running Opti oil!!!
a couple bucks a gallon is worth it to me not to have to spent 7 grand again for another powerhead!!!
my 2 cents-ya'll do what ever ya'll want!

I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning !!!

Snakebit I did call Tommy at Rockwall Marine, $20.00 per gallon is a great deal on the Optimax oil. I just need to make a trip from Fort Worth to the Far East and load up on 10 to 12 gallons. I totally understand your reasoning for running Optimax oil only, after 7 grand on a powerhead. I do think the Pennzoil will work just fine. I would make the change but why chance it if I can get Optimax oil for $20.00.

I think the smoke from Pennzoil is Pennzoil cleaning up a dirty engine. I'm running a carb. motor and Pennzoil Premium Plus with very little smoke.

Academy has the 2 1/2 gallon of Premium Plus Pennzoil for 29.99 here in Arlington.
Thats 12 dollars a gallon. It is a synthetic blend, just like the Opti oil.
