Ok, I just went and checked my photos from last year and they are dated March 12th. We kept 40 fish that day and caught plenty of others. I know the whites were in the river before that last year. Are they there yet? Based on this crazy weather I would think the heat we have had would mean they are there by now.

they are scattered... still catching skinny males at the mouth. i think the run is gonna be more spotty and drwan out this year, especially if we get another cold shot.

like KingBingo said they are scattered. I have fished it every thursday or friday for the past 3 weeks with the same results.... 8-12 whites all scrawny little males except for maybe one a day.

I caught 12 today and only boxed one female which I let go cuz I'm not cleaning one fish. I worked from the mouth all the way up to where it is too shallow to run anymore near that huge house. I think we need a good rain.

Quite a few people think they are up there..or they are looking for the whites...Just went by the ramp and 30 tow rigs were parked there...

On Sunday, my best pal Adam and I are going to hit the lake. We are going for the full range of fish. We are looking to hit anything that bites....whites included. We will stay until the sun goes down, drop the green lights in the water, and toss some minnows in....all the while, we will have some Lewis King's punchbait on the bottom for some cats. Look out, Canyon....the kids are coming with a vengence!
Well, if we don't catch, at least Adam is a funny guy to hang around with! Maybe we will hit Anchor's Landing for lunch. Wish me luck. Steven

Good luck Steven, and I'm sure you will do well. I've not been dissappointed when fishing Canyon. Seems like there is always something willing to bite. Don't get discouraged by the lack of posts. I think it's just most folks are being tight lipped hoping the crowds will stay away! Ain't gonna happen! Again good luck and let us know how you did! I'm going up in the morning so I hope I'll have a positive report for you.

I just wonder if the folks who are reporting are fishing the right way. Has anyone been up to the rapids, killed the motor and then dragged minnows along the bottom with the current this year? The fish seemed to be from the sandbar way below the rapids to the old boat ramp last year.

Year after year I see people drive up the river somewhere and tie to the side as I float by them in the channel catching fish after fish. The drift method takes a strong trolling motor, more tackle, and a lot of minnows. Last year there was 30 boats and only three of us were actually drifting with the current and catching limits of fish.

I know that the fish I caught in March last year were all males.

Those Canyon whites can be finicky. Lot's of factors effect the bite, but if something works for you keep doing it. I don't have much trouble catching them when they are there. I always believe that old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I went up to the rapids friday and drifted back. I don't normally use live bait. I picked up a few up that way on some small white sassy shads. They're just not too thick up there yet. Some rain would help me thinks.

Who gets the Darwin Award for having their boat trailer coming unhitched and ending up in a fence just north of Borgfield on 281 north? Seen it yesterday afternoon. Wish I had my camera for that one. They were trying to get it out of the fence when I passed by. Law was not there yet...

That is always a fear of mine. I'm a little paranoid about that, and I often check and re-check mine all the time. I guess it's because I've known of a couple people personally, that had theirs come off. One guy was in our bass club way back when, and he was coming back from Braunig and his aluminum boat ended up with a front end that resembled a smashed aluminum can.
The other was kind of unbelievable, and would have been, had I not known that it really did happen, (hate to admit a relative on the wifes side of course) He drove over the railroad tracks on the R.R. crossing in Pleasanton on the way to the Coast at night, and got down there, and realized he'd lost his boat somewhere between S.A. and the Coast. The Hwy Patrol told him where to look after he called them and explained what happened, and didn't know where it was. The old fella finally left for more fertile waters, but that's funny stuff, right there!

Jimbo,

You been to the river lately?

We went out yesterday and got a few females...

May head out again today. Look for me on either a bright yellow kayak or a blue kayak, trolling 2 or 3 rods, with a bass pro hat on.

yeah i saw the boat through the fence the other day.... they had a flatbed out there.

i wonder if the whole truck/boat unit went through, or if the trailer jumped the ball...

at least the boat stayed on the trailer and it was upright.

about year ago, i saw an article in the saltwater magazine they sell int he gas stations (can't remember the name, but it's about the best texas fishing mag i ever read) anyways, they had some pics of a trailer that came loose and the boat came off the trailer.... man, talk about ruining your trip!
