That is a nice Dover Sole and quality eating at that. Used to sell those out of a fish counter I worked at for close to $30/lb for whole fish. If you go down to the Roughfish/Carp section of the forum, you'll find a bunch of guys that use freshwater euro gear and tactics in pursuit of mostly carp.

Hi mate, I must admit I don't take many fish, but that Sole did taste good! Baked in foil in the oven with a little butter.. I see that the lads are using specimen Carp tactics, but there are a whole bunch of ways we use to get them, and other freshwater fish, like chub and Roach, if we are fishing on the bottom we use a quivertip rod, and quite fine lines, 2lb to 6lb test, and very small hooks, the rods go from 10ft to about 13ft, with a fairly through action, and solid fibreglass or carbon interchangeable tips, which are extremely sensitive, I think they are known as nibble tips in Australia, These are Chub, caught by my friend in the river Tone, in Somerset, on pieces of white bread, used with a feeder, which is a weighted plastic or wire cage, into which you put liquidized bread, or groundbait, (chum)

Very interesting pics. I used the 1st river scene with the stone bridge for background on my desktop. Makes we want to travel over there some day. Are there any Bass (Sunfish, not Stripers, etc.)near you? Thanks for sharing!

great shots- coupla ugly fish
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Are there any Bass (Sunfish, not Stripers, etc.)near you? Thanks for sharing! Thanks for using that picture mate, I'm honoured! I'm posting a couple more you may like, feel free to use whatever you wish You may want to have a look on Google maps at the area, it's called Countess Wear, Exeter Devon, The postal code is EX2 6LR, the river and bridge are clearly visible. By Bass, do you mean Largemouth? We don't have those here (sadly!) The nearest we have are Perch and Zander (walleye) in freshwater, and the European Sea Bass in the salt, which is similar to the Striped Bass, but does'nt get as big, or as angry! I've put a picture of one of those up there for you as well. Some of the other Pictures were taken on Dartmoor, the snow covered bridge is about 400-500 years old I think. If you ever do make it over here and decide to visit the South West, let me know. Thats Dartmoor Old Bridge on Dartmoor Dartmoor again My friend trotting a float (bobber) on the river Tone, Somerset Me with a small Sea Bass Dartmoor is a national park here, very old and full of legends like the hairy hands, a pair of disembodied hands which force people's vehicles off the road, I think the hound of the Baskervilles was set there, http://www.discoverdartmoor.co.uk/things-to-do/myths-legends.aspHave a look at that link if you like, Devon's full of stuff like that! The house my apartment is in has been around for the best part of 400 years or so.

nice pics! I spent six years in the Air Force at RAF Mildenhall and loved it and really loved the beer! Wish I knew about the fishing then because I heard there is real good pike fishing there but I spent the first four years in the pub!
