So I can catch as many limits per day as I want to....as long as I transport each "limit" to my home freezer. I live next to the lake.....I catch a limit of bass, crappie, catfish...whatever. Wifey meets me at the shore and hauls the fish to the trailer. I go out and catch another limit and repeat the scenario. Now, this is completely legal? No matter how many limits I bring in during a 12 hour fishing day, as long as I catch ONE limit of each fish at a time and transport them to my trailer...I'm ok? I can go back on the water and do it again and again and again and again as long as the fish are biting? Just want to know if it is legal to do this. Seems like me and Wifey could load up a bunch of stripers when they are running good. Only if no one is watching. there was a guide on the Louisana gulf coast that was observed with a client limiting out on spec trout, taking them to the truck, putting them in a cooler and going back out. When he returnedwith a second limit, he was arrested, boat, motor, and truck confiscated and guide license revoked. MO

That counts as what you have in your freezer or fridge, not what is in the boat. You are lowed two days possesion in that form. Either in the combination mentioned or in the freezer or fridge.

the guy in Louisiana was busted for taking more then your daily limit. probably not for having more then your possession limit.
once it makes it to your freezer at home, its no longer part of your possession limit, but that does not in any way change the fact of what you have taken in that day.
if you are fishing a regular texas waters you are allowed 5 bass, meaning if you fish a lake with bass and limit every day you can legally have 1,820 bass in your freezer. (no idea why you would want to) but those bass better make it to your freezer every two days at least.

the way its worded makes it so confusing..
possetion keeps an angler from TAKING more then a limit of fish per day and simply saying that he didnt take them on that particular day..if there were no possesion limit, you could have as many fish in your possesion and say the ones over the limit were TAKEN on previous days as there is no way to prove when you TOOK those fish...like mentioned before the key word is TAKE.

If a game warden observed you taking more than one limit in a day, you would get ticketed for exceeding the daily limit. It is a matter of enforcement. Our fish and game laws work in America because most sportsmen are honest. If we only obey because we're afraid we'll get caught, then we've reached a sad state of affairs!!! But ya gotta admit.....that "fear factor" is a BODACIOUS encouragement for doing the right thing!! I wish that statement were true for all across the board. Go out to Lavon when the Sandies are running at the point by the power plant. There will be Asians lined up elbow to elbow throwing everthing they catch in a bucket. See it all the time. We do have a new GW that is working Lavon now and he seems very motivated to do a good job. We will see how it works out this year.

Yep, I've seen 'em thrownetting and loading up the five gallon bucket at Choke Canyon too. There may be some karma eventually though. The little cove where I've seen them has a really grumpy 12 foot gator living in it.

@robert hunter - I think we're all confusing daily limit vs possession limit. Law is clear. There is a distinction. I've looked at few areas in the admin law, statutes, and tpwd and wasn't able to find anything quite on point to our discussion of lost stingers, however, the tpwd site did say possession ends when you reach your final destination and the fish is possessed. And some of the examples given by the group are a bit egregious...I wasn't advocating "gaming" the system but rather saying if you legitimately lost your fish, you would have a decent argument against any citation which may or may not be issued. That said...the daily limit definition as provided in all locations seems clear that in a 24 hour period you'd be done but it still is unclear on the retention aspect. In other words, have you retained a fish that you stung and got away, slipped off the stringer, etc. But this is boring...so let's get back to the REAL TOPIC...

I wouldn't eat anything out of these metroplex sewer drains anyway. I was just pointing out that if a game warden sees you with a limit on a stinger comes back by and you have a different stringer with one your skrewed. Also pointed out I know your not the one that made the comment about doing that. I would trust you would have more commen sense as a sportsman to know if you loose your stringer full of fish they are dead and that's your limit for the day. Unless you care less about the few real freedoms we have here and the land god gave us. If it was the same day as stated it would still be daily limit not possession that supper seeded. Tpwd specifically said that once on a stringer there part of your daily Limit weather lost or not. I was also referring to a limit in the morning and a limit at night illegal as well I never discussed anything about people that have 200 sandbass fillets in the freezer putting them over their possession limit.

Let me stir this pot a little more...Is a travel trailer on the lake considered your residence when you have a home somewhere else? Can you have as much as you can catch in the trailer ? I've seen "Snow Birds" carry freezer's full of fish that they caught over the winter back north with them. They pay no attention to the 2 day possession law.

that means you cant have more in your home then 5 others. plus the 5 you have when he checks your fish at the lake or river. Like crappie is 25 daily 50 in possesion so if i have my limit at the lake i cant have more then 25 at my house in the freezer

Can a person catch a daily limit of sandbass, crappie, catfish, and hybrid? 80 fish? (I'm assuming the crappie limit is 25, I've never caught more than 5). Is there an absolute total amount of fish you can catch per day.
