Has anyone had a whole lot of luck with these? they are supposed to last 30 minutes alive in saltwater but they don't seem to last 5 minutes. I guess fresh dead is better than frozen if anything will eat them in the first place. Anybody have any input for me.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Never heard of 'em! I use salted mullet chunks - that works real well for me. Netted big ones in September when I got here in TX. I filleted, salted, and froze them. Now, I take 'em out, cut 'em in strips and they are just like fresh dead after being in the water about 3-5 minutes!

i used them when they first came out and didnt catch any flounder during the run, its worth it in my opinion. you paid $4 or 5 a dozen and they gonna die in 5 mins if theres no flounder to eat it because its freshwater fish. so when they die you have to work it just like a lure so why not just get lures from the beginning and save the trouble.
LETS FISH!!

I used them at night at the jetties and caught what looked like a grouper or something similiar to that in the 3 lb range, caught a 28 in red, caught and lost a snook it threw the hook back at me. LOl and a 6lb mangrove snapper. I totally fell in love using the black saltys that I have called the company that sells them and setting up an aquarium to have them handy next time out. true they are not saltwater baitfish so if you put them into saltwater like in a baitbucket that is why they died they have to be kept in freshwater until they are to be used for bait in saltwater.

I am glad that somebody has caught fish on them. it just wasn't me, i still might bring a dozen down when i come, i just wish i could get the bigger sizes. If you are already spending $7-9 on shrimp what is an extra 4 bucks to have a different bait out. I would really like to get a hold of the offshore or magnum size though.
BTW- had a dozen in a 2 gallon bait bucket with 1 dose of Bait-Buddies for about 16 hours and they all where as happy as could be in the bucket. Just didn't last that long on the hook.

I've only used them on Trotlines & Jugs for big Flatheads, never in saltwater.
I was reading the post & it tickled my curiosity (easily accomplished) and I had to do some internet searching...
I found a study online done by FL Fish & Game, they were concerned about the unnatural spread of these that were intentional/accidental released, They had a very short lifespan in "Terminal Salinity" ~15ppm and only survived 3hrs in brackish water.
I always called the "Black Goldies" because they were normally mixed in with regular Goldfish, Didn't know they were an actual different breed, just assumed the cross breeding in confined growing areas caused the color variations.
I can only verify that the work great on Trotlines, Jugs & Throwlines in rivers & lakes
I tried to be normal but it got boring so it's just back to being ME~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Never argue with an Idiot, They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
