You must educate yourself to the difference between fire ants and natives! Just look for the pit's on the aft portion of the mandible. Or study the color of the pupils. On the common red ant it will be reddish...the imported fire ant will be more of a burnt orange. Also the fire ant has black soles on the bottom of its feet as opposed to the usual grey! PLEASE - PLEASE - PLEASE! Stop the madness of killing helpless little ants! What NEXT! Clubbing baby seals!

How far north are fireants now? I live by S.A. and pretty much grew up with 'em. While in Stephenville ('93-'97) I never saw any. I know there not in Lubbock or Gurthrie yet....maybe too dry or too cold of winters???
I do know how to keep them out of your entire yard with one application a year....look for a product call "Over and Out" @ Lowes or walley world.
or just pee on it [/QB]
haha, at what point is a ant bite bad enough that you really begin to consider the option... "hmmm this ant bite looks pretty bad, looks like its about time to pee on myself.... ahhhh much better"
I just got back from the lake a few nights ago with a good 20 bites, on top of the 30 or so I got a few days before that. My ankles are raw from the popping of the bites. But it was worth all the fish... I would do it again tomorrow.
That listerine trick... do you have to put it on the bite soon as they bite or just as soon as you get back to where you can put some on?

I guess that peeing thing would be alright as long as they bit you on your feet. What happens if you get bit on the arm or chest, could be real interesting. I bet you could get hauled in for something like that, maybe even have your head examined!!! LOL

As far as effectiveness of the mouthwash on bites... I've always gotten bit either in my yard or a lake just a few miles away so it works good when applied shortly after getting bit. If the fire ants are biting more than the fish I don't stick around long ! As far as Baylor Guys peeing cure.. I hope his parents don't see this post ! "Send him to college and what's he learn ????? How to pee on an ant bite" NEWS FLASH Well known TFF angler seen peeing all over himself, film at eleven ! David C.
4 out of 5 voices in my head say call in sick and go fishing !

Yep, I can see me and Redrader26 fishing at our favorite spot on Lake Lewisville. He gets bit by a fireant(s) as he always does, and me unzipping the zipper going, "Just a sec, I got the cure right here!"
Waiting on Bob Davis' next selfie

but on a more serious note, a concoction i use for killing fire ants is this: cup and a half of liquid dishwashing soap, a cup and a half of liquid hand washing soap and water and put it all in a big mopping bucket. mix it to where it suds up and the poke holes in the fireant bed and drown the bed with it. iv done this many times and within a few days, that huge fireant bed is gone. -tim

dont need to light it......Gasoline works wonders on them, kinda freezes em in their tracks. Also I had em in the house last summer....zippo lighter fluid did the trick and it evaporates very quicky leaving nothing but dead ants.

I bought some of that amodros stuff at walmart and it works pretty good at killing the fire ants. Its pretty high in price but does the job.

I recently set out on an all night cat fishing trip with my cousin lee, also in attendance were the wives. My wife loves to fish and enjoys each trip we take, while lees wife is till getting used to idea of fishing. She never really fished before and she is not really the outdoors type, but we are working to change that. It was a hot sticky night, we had just had a tremendous rainfall and the water levels were at an all time high. The fishing pier we normally night fish from was underwater, we had to stand at the boat ramps and make due. We wanted to fish so we werent going to let a little rain stop us.
One thing we didnt count on was the fire ant population that had gathered due to the high water levels. We were being eaten alive by these nasty little pests so we sent the women to go get some ant spray from the local gas station, big mistake that was. They returned with raid wasp and hornet spray, we both laughed until they told us it cost $8 for the can. Eight dollars! What a rip that was, future note never buy insect spray from a gas station. We had to laugh about it until we were interrupted by an onslaught from the swarming ants, what a pain in the *** they were.
We decided to stand in the water to fish for a while; the ants had other ideas though. We figured being in knee deep water would be sufficient, but it wasnt, the ants were going to get to us no matter what. They would latch onto floating branches and leaves; they found a way to keep biting us. We were not going to get discouraged though, it was early and the bite was yet to come, so we thought.
The only bite that ever came our way was followed by several more from the local fire ant population. The fishing was very dull that night, but we the ants made sure we didnt leave empty handed. They were all over us, even on the way home. I had to stop the truck a few times and remove ants from not so comfortable places. I thing anyone who has ever camped out or fished in poor conditions understands where i'm coming from.
The is nothing more annoying than having an angry heard of fire ants find their way down your pants and into your nether regions. Not a pretty sight when everyone around you is grabbing themselves and picking their butts while cussing the day fire ants were created. Oh well its all part of the experience as they say, what an experience we had, one we will never be able to forget.
Lees wife who is new to all of this couldnt understand why we would put ourselves through this ordeal. We looked at each other, picked ants out of private places and laughed. What else can you do but laugh, she stood there shaking her head as we continued on our way.
