welcome aboard luguy

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

thanks. I'm from NC so i have no idea on where to go or how to fish out here. I'm guessing my tactics from NC will work here as well.

Report: hit the water at about 8 am. Wind chill was 14 they said on the radio. And yes, it was freaking cold. But- the crappie were cooperating. All on hand tied jigs and a few on "extra large minnows". Sandbass are thicker than i have seen them in the creek before. caught a couple magnums and over 50 throw backs. But all in all, it was a bit slow. bite stopped about 11am. -with one here and there after.....

-Typical WRC Crappie

-Josh's Stringer

-Crappie and Sand Bass

Nice! I bet it was a cold one this morning. I'm heading to Wal-Mart to stack up on slip bobbers and bobber stoppers.

I guess that was you i saw out there tarponfly. I was in a brown jacket. i walked back up the creek and caught 20 keepers. 5 throwbacks and a few sandies as well. all were caught in the same place. had a few get off at the bank then left them biting at 5pm.
the fish are in there just have to experiment to find out what they want. i caught mine from 2ft down to 6ft down.

i figured the bite would be good later in the day. we left about 1 pm. we only keep 12 inchers and up. definetly would have liited in less than 2 hour, but now the old lady is making me keep the crappie for a big family fish fry.... yesterday was the first time i actually cleaned a fish, lol...... i dont eat to much fish anymore....air pressure was rising the whole time we were there. and as we left it was 30.12 and dropped to 30.04 by 5 PM.... i figured they would have been biting a heck of a lot better this afternoon.......

So if the creek does so well in the winter, I guess White Rock Lake must have some fish in it the rest of the year? I grew up near there, and I do remember people catching spring crappie by the paddleboats old boathouse area in spring. Wish I was crappie fishing when I lived closer to the creek; very far from me now.

I was surprised to catch them suspended in the current. Only problem was fishing from such a high bank. All were caught at the same location. You just had to keep changing colors and depth to stay on them. They kept changing depth and location but they only would move a few feet then start biting again. Is there hybrids in there also? , cause i decided to use 6lb test instead of my braid like i normally do and hooked into something i couldnt control lol. I set the hook and it took off and there was nothing i could do with him. Ive actually brought in a 23lb alp on that rig with 10lb braid before out of the trinity but whatever it was and with the snags i knew it was a lost cause so i just held the spool till it broke since i had no other line with me, and only the one rod. Ill take a break from it today and look for other areas today to explore.

well, i fished the Super Secret Concealed Location (SSCL), and tore into the Magnum Sandies. Biggest was 15.5 inches. Would have limited on them if i kept them all. but i was after crappie for fun today, after i only got 7 keepers so i released all of them due to not enough to bother filleting , and they all swam away happy today. all were super fat. not stomach fat, -meat fat! so were the sandies. anyways fished for 3 hours. pretty slow on the slab side, but the sandies were fun. below is from this morning 8-11. would have gotten there by 7 but the weatherman is an idiot.

Report: Hit the creek with two clients this morning. As we got to the creek, the night shift guys were leaving-----> w/ EMPTY BUCKETS! hmmm that didn't look promising but the fish gods had something special at hand for us today as you will see in this report... Have I ever let a client down? -Nope.

like i was saying before, look how "meat fat they are".....

Now introducing the"NEW"White Rock Lake - White Bass Record!

(Below) Armando with a certified White Bass Weighing 1.71 pounds at a length of 14.75 inches. Caught while on a guided trip with Carey Thorn

Last time these guys were out with me on a guided trip, they got a 37 inch, 30.10 pound Striper below Denison Dam. Pic of that below.....

Was a slow day though, at least in our area we were in. no one else caught a crappie out of the 20 people that walked by.
