Funny that because someone fishes a point every week that it is "their" point..... I call bs.
AS stated, the hunters were probably there way before most fisherman were awake, perhaps that would be the "ownership" by first come, first serve basis. Granted, if I don't have my birds by 10(at the latest), then I'm loading up and giving it to the fishermen.
I believe that if you want to get technical, the fisherman who comes up on the duck hunter and interferes with his hunt is breaking the law.. though that would just be more fuel on the fire of sportsmen fighting with other sportsmen....(starting a fire fight on the water like it was Iraq will really make a great statement when it hits the press...)
IF the birds are flying good, I'm out of there before most bass boats hit the water. If they are not flying good then I'm not going to be concerned about s fisherman ruining my trip but it would be nice if a little respect was given by both partys.

Again, not trying to start a fight with you, like I said Im a hunter too! But, I think you are failing to see the circumstances here. This is a deepwater main lake point that they were trying to hunt, a favorite point of many anglers on choke. This was not a spot to set up on and try to claim all for yourself. 2nd, I was never closer than 100 yds to them, they were hidden and I didnt even notice them untill they opened their mouths! Third, it was almost mid-day on a public fishing lake!

You have to take these things into account! I would have never went back into a cove or creek where I see hunters already there! At the same time, I dont expect to pull up to a main lake point at 10 am in 20 ft of water and see hunters either! These guys should have picked a better spot to try and hunt! It was not just me that was fishing the point either, there were about 3 other boats.

You have to see my point of view! Im a local fisherman, and the usually fisherman and duck hunters have always stuck to unwritten areas of the lake. I have never had problems untill this year. Now, we got people showing up from all over the state to hunt ducks on choke canyon and I think that it is their responsibility to realize that this is a "major fishing" lake, and try to keep this in mind when picking a spot! They need to studdy a lake map and see what areas are designated as favorite fishing spots, hook-n-line map will tell you! There are plenty of prime duck waters around the lake that fisherman dont enter near as much, but stay away from the main lake points, thats just silly! Thats like setting a deer feeder next to a highway, and then trying to keep people from driving it!

Also, I was at the lake the same time as all of the duck-hunters, I was alone and had to do all boat launching myself, I have at least 100 lbs of fishing gear, and work hard all week to!

PS these guys would have been real mad if a BassChamps tourny had been there! Also, I never asked them to leave, it was the other way around! I could have cared less if they stayed!

I have just alway been shocked that duck hunters are allowed on public lakes. "Shooting guns" and "Public Lake" just dont go together really well in my brain. The only people i know that duck hunt, have leases somewhere where they have large shallow water ponds to hunt duck on, not recreational lakes. If i ever got sprinkled by shot while fishing on the lake, it would be a bad day for that hunter.

Those duck hunter have just as much right to that spot as any fisherman. They were there first so show some respect and fish somewhere else. You dont own the lake. Duck season will be over before you know it.

Question: DO you think they new it is "One of the top 5 fishing spots on the lake"?

I am a bass fisherman with duck hunting problem. Basically from November through early Jan I forget what a bass is in search of the ducks. Just be cautious, and be alert of what is going on around you. Look for decoys. and hunters. I have seen duck hunters hunting main lake on FOrk while winter fishing. I stay clear. Hunters have just as much right to that point as fisherman I do not care if it is the number one spot on the lake. What i you were fishing it, and another bass fisherman came 20 yards from you? Would you say "I was here first".

It is all public, and can be worked out in a gentleman way. Duck hunters are usually off the water by 10, 11 oclock max. But put yourself in their shoes. If Choke is getting pounded as bad as I bet it is after the article in Delta Mag, and the show on DU-TV. Those boys prolly slipped into that water by 3, or 4 in the morning. You would be a little edgy too.

Man up Nancy. If you hear shotguns booming, move to another part of the lake.

Duck hunters pay for the right to use public lakes with every license purchase.

Why does it matter what time of day it was? I have been known to hunt all day if the weather is nice, just as I would do if i was bass fishing. I've had great hunts on mainlake points as well. Its not a very long season for ducks, so just let them have the spot and move on. We are all outdoorsman and we should show eachother more respect. I've had this happen to me while tourney fishing several times, even though they are hunting "my spot" I just move on to another area, heck you never know you might learn somthing new about the lake. Its just the way it is Nov-Jan, just need to learn to cope with it.

I think this whole post is funny... You guys never grew up in real "DUCK COUNTRY". Try going to Louisiana and try fishing during duck or goose season! If you are going to a prime hunting spot that also has good fishing and you survive the trip to your fishing spot without getting shot at I would give you a pat on the back BUT then check you for holes! lol

Its all in your head of who has rights to what resource your going after. Common sense and respect tells you if you see another person at a spot then stay away. If you run up on them by accident and they say something to you then you should say I am sorry I will movehope I did not mess up your hunting! THEN MOVE!! In my book of do's and don'ts there is something that reads...don't mess with anyone and they won't mess with you!!

But foremost don't be stupid and do things you know will have dire consequences!! I am considered by some to be a crazy coonarse but I respect others and their rights. BUT you better prepare for the "real" crazy ones...look at these duck hunters from north Louisiana!! Would you tell them the same thing and expect to leave with arse not filled with #2 steel shot?? I know I would not even think about it!!! lol

You guys crack me up!!

Land was created to provide a place for boats to visit!! It is when pirates count their booty that they become mere thieves. ARRRRRR....

Duck Hunters are CRAZY!!!! I know alot of you guys duck hunt and when the camo comes on yall get looney! LOL. I do agree that it's public water and the duck hunters should be given the same respect, I have been at fault on gettting too close to duck hunters and I will do my best in the future to stay as far away as possible. It is an outdoorsman sport like bass fishing and they deserve my upmost respect. So if any of you guys have been cut off by me at Lake Palestine, I apologize!

Have you seen the prices of those leases. The duck hunting on then is awesome but not everyone has that kinda cash. I hunt public lakes but it's mostly backwaters. If there ever were a fisherman to show up and say it was still kinda early I'd prolly ask them to move on down a little ways and let them know when I would be leaving. It would be the courteous thing for them to do is move on. But it would also be the rite thing for me to do is stop hunting at a decent hour especially if the ducks weren't flying. I agree flippin you should bd able to fish there just like they can hunt there. But since they made there presence known and hopefully asked you to move on nicely then it wouldn't have killed you to come back a little later. The season is short so the fun doesn't last long and those fish are there year round. Just my 2 cents.
