I don't know if this question has been asked, but what is your favorite technique for bass fishing in the winter?

A question I would ask is when do you consider a lake to be in winter conditions? For me it is anything below 50 Degrees. Once water hits that temp and below I go to small baits and lots of metal baits. Fish do not need a big meal even big fish. I read a study that said a fish in the winters metabolism slows and if they eat too big of a meal it could actually sour before it is digested. Grubs, finesse jigs, 0.5 deep diving cranks, small slabs, metal blades, sassy shads, shakey heads and suspending jerk baits all work well for different types of structure and or cover. Another key thing fish do in the winter is suspend in tight bunches over bottom structure. They will stay at whatever depth is most comfortable to them that they can find. On a sunny day you can be in 50 feet of water and be catching fish just 3 or 4 feet down around nothing. The 2 biggest keys in the winter for me are water temp and shad in lakes without grass. I am not saying you can not catch fish on larger baits because people do and I have. I have found that for me the smaller baits will catch just as big a fish in the winter with stunning regularity.

Regarding the trap, how, when, where? Do you just cast it out and reel it in, yo yo it, fish primarily in lakes with grass, fish in highland lakes?
